Understanding what a radian is

👉 Learn about angles in trigonometry. An angle is the figure formed by two rays sharing the same endpoint. The two rays are called the sides of the angle while the common endpoint of the two rays is called the vertex of the angle.

Angle is measured in radians or in degrees. The radian is the measure of the length of an arc of a unit circle or the measure of the radius of the circle on the circumference of the circle. pi radians is equivalent to 180 degrees. One complete revolution about a point is equivalent to 2pi radians and 360 degrees. A plane is usually divided into 4 equal parts called the quadrants.

The angle measured in the anti-clockwise direction is called a positive angle while a negative angle is measured in the clockwise direction. We measure angles starting from the positive x-axis.

Students had the same questions I had, and you answered the questions is a clear and understandable way. We need more teachers like you. Thank you so much for all the videos you do!

I did all this pre-calculus stuff at night school classes 30 years ago, not with view to taking the "A" Level but simply out of curiosity and personal interest.

I never quite, "got, " Radians or all those damn Identities.

Well at least this has cleared up Radians, thank you.

Wow... why can't all professors explain math like you! I was getting so frustrated trying to understand my trig professor's scribbles on the board. Thanks.. will be watching more :)

Hello. I watched you explain something before to help my son who is failing math. You were a great help. Now my daughter is dealing with planar cross sections. Do you have a lesson we can watch that explains this?

Mr. McLogan,
What grade/year do you teach?

You should have started with the information pi = 3 radius plus a little extra. As an adult trying to relearn this...I've forgotten so much math that there can not be an assumption that I know/or that your students know...that you were leading up to pi = 1/2 the circumference of a circle. You would've gotten less question if you started with pi = 3 radius plus a little extra.
