How Long Should I Wait In Between Resin Coats?

Q: How Long Should I Wait Before Applying Another Resin Coat?

A: There are two methods for applying additional coats:

- the first is the speedier method. After you’ve applied your first coat of Artresin, wait about 3-5 hours until that Artresin has reached a gel like state. At that point you can pour your second coat on top and the two layers will cure simultaneously, creating a very strong bond.

- the second method takes little more time, but is nonetheless equally strong at the end. You will pour your first coat of ArtResin and then wait 24 hours until the ArtResin has completely cured. At that point, it’s no longer sticky, and you will need a piece of 80 grit sandpaper to rough up the surface to provide some tooth for that second coat. At that point you can pour your second coat overtop, and again, those layers are going to bond very, very strongly together.

You can repeat either of these methods as often as you like until you reach the thickness you desire.

Thank you! I was wondering the “magic” number of hours to add the layer of inclusions. Your tips are great!

Does the second coat have to be the same amount of volume? I did a 18x24 inch painted panel with 1.5inch depth, it was 16oz for the first coat. Can I use less the second time around? Whats a good amount just to be a thin layer over my sanded imperfections? Thank you!

Can I do this if I didn’t add enough resin in the mold? First time, didn’t make enough so the mold has like two more inches I can add. The flower petals floated to the top and are kinda sticking out, so I’d like to add a bit more to fully encase it. Also, is there a secret to getting the items your putting in the resin to NOT float to the top? I have bouquet flower petals and real bird feathers I am putting in for my step mom as my dad and her just got married so I thought it would be cool to put the feathers from her bird in and the petals… but it’s all just floating to the top. No bubbles, looks fantastic, except the flower stem is coming out the top. :(

It’s cured bc the isnstructions said to wait 6 hours before adding more but I can’t seem to find any videos on adding more if you DONT want them to look like unique layers?

And some paint came off my board, can I do spot treatment painting on top of the sanded resin? Will the second resin coat hide that? The paint will be the same color

Can I still pour a second layer without sanding it if it’s before the 24 hour period but after 3-6?

In my hastiness and worry of the resin hardening, I only waited an hour. Mainly due to fear that the resin left in the cup would harden too much... Or should I prepare the resin of the second layer at a separate time?

It is nice video
I have a question to ask
Is it when they said gel time ?
I saw on amazon epoxy they said it like gel time is 8-12 hours. So the second coat be poured around 12 hours ? Thanks
