NASA successfully launched its Orion spacecraft, the first part of the Artemis One mission to the moon.
This will be a test of the new Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft that will eventually carry astronauts to Earth's closest neighbor.
Kim Jung-sil explains further.

Another giant step for humanity.

After several delays lasting months, NASA's Artemis One mission has finally begun with a successful launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 1:47 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Artemis is NASA's program aimed at returning astronauts to the Moon for the first time since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.
Artemis is the name of the Greek goddess of the Moon, the twin sister of Apollo, the God of the sun and light.

NASA said the primary goal of this first mission is to thoroughly test the Space Launch System rocket, the new super heavy-lift rocket that will send astronauts to the Moon as part of the third Artemis mission a few years from now.
The rocket carried the Orion spacecraft, which was built to serve as the exploration vehicle that will carry astronauts to space.
Inside the Orion are 3 mannequins wearing space suits to test the durability and safety of the suits in action.
Artemis I will be testing Orion’s heat shield and the recovery of its crew module after reentry, descent and splashdown.
The Artemis program eventually aims to land the first woman and the first person of color on the moon by 2025 or 2026 and prepare for human missions to Mars.
