So what do the senior level people who've done a ton of launches, wear little nubs of a tie that have been cut down to nothing? Is that how it works?

I prefer the baked beans and cornbread tradition. At JPL it’s downing peanuts (jelly beans for those w/ peanut allergies.)

The same as the tradition of getting your shirt tail cut off after your first solo flight for a Private Pilot License.
