Welding 6 inch Pipe Schedule 40 | You're Going to Run into This All The Time

You know how to make the bottom look just like the top ? Screw the top up too, works for me😅.

You can use a cutting disk as well and cut the gap open it works very well

Stick a piece of 3/32 tig wire or a 3/32 stripped 7018 in the gap before tacking it and save your helper the grinding unless you hate him.

Many years ago, we always used a hacksaw to fix gap closure. Worked great every time.

It’s so refreshing g to hear a welder who doesn’t blow his lid when he’s given a subpar fit. Knowing how to address it and continue on with the weld is only the right thing to do. If only more welders would learn these type of the trade.

The other way is to place removable spacers holds the gap open till you get a good quarter to half the root. Sometimes you just gotta deal with what you got. If it closes a matobo blade works better to open it.

One tack on the bottom, jump to the top and throw another tack then left to right stops gap closure all the time and this was taught to me by my welding instructor.

Cit your gap, then catty-corner a grinding disc to restore the bevel. Works like a charm.
