Mutahar from SomeOrdinaryGamers very recently put up a very detailed video on how to get Linux Mint on your system. Highly recommend it!

Good of you to mention Proton DB, it's invaluable.
Another launcher besides Heroic is Lutris.

I appreciate your cadence and mannerisms. For what it’s worth. Very easy to follow and relate to.

It's not really "every time you update your computer", it's more like everytime you get a big version upgrade of Windows, also known as a "feature update or upgrade" (which happens about 2 times an year, which is fairly manageable for me). You can also configure it to offset it to go like every 18 months or so instead of 6 months if you have Pro, Education, or Enterprise editions and you can still do it on the Home editions but it's just a little bit harder.

Small correction: macOS does not require you to use an Apple ID. You can simply press "Not now" in the lower left corner and that's the end of that.

You make some good points about macOS vs Windows, but having used both I can say that there are some BIG differences:
1. You are not logging into your mac with your Apple ID
2. You don't get nag screens wanting you to use Apple services. On my Macs I had always turned off iCloud, and never used Safari or iTunes.
3. It is MUCH easier to change default apps on macOS vs recent versions of Windows
4. Not everybody is a gamer. There are plenty of Steam games on macOS if you don't care about the latest AAA First person shooter-type games. And hell, you could always get a steam deck (which runs Linux).
5. I'd take a Mac over a Windows system any day since drive letters are just stupid in 2024!

I really like what you have done with your videos so far. Keep up the great content!

Linux Mint 21.3 is the best distro, I distro hop as a hobby and Mint is the best I've found in 30 years of searching!

12:56 Linux is part of a full Operating System, the full operating systems that use Linux and are bundled and distributed are called Linux Distributions. They generally work like Unix. Some don't have basic Unix functionality like being able to install Linux/Unix programs ie Android and ChromeOS so they are sometimes not considered Linux Distributions. Many work much like Unix which is great and also have a GUI so they can make a great alternative to Windows.

Started with Ubuntu in 2008 and went to Mint when they implemented unity.
Mint is still my main OS.
I've got a second box with Windows 11, just for music software. I wasn't surprised at how bad it is.

One correction: Adobe Reader does work on Linux. It can be run through wine, but it often borks out, so the method is to use Adobe Reader without issues is to install from snap. However, Linux has an abundance of pdf readers that are as good or even better than Adobe Reader, so there is no point of using it, unless some special pdf file requires it.

0:46 The 6th is 3rd party ads. Like the deceptive ads in the Start Menu of Windows 11. You forgot that one.

There's more too. Like the new blacklist that blocks some 3rd party programs. And forced obsolescence where Windows 11 doesn't run on hardware that is not really really new unless you hack it to.

I've been on Mint since 2018 and have loved every minute of it. Edit: I also play World of Warcraft and Balder's Gate 3 just fine in Mint.

Been on Linux Mint for a while, I'm much happier with the system resources I retain.
I remember trying to remove bloat from Windows 10 and changing settings that mysteriously got changed back with updates to Windows.

Anything getting put back on a Windows compurter on upgrade is malware to me. Microsoft is a Hyper user (sudo+++ in Linux parlance) and a Windows machine "belongs" to Microsoft, and not the person who paid out hard cash for it. Utterly disgraceful.

Great video,

Good presentation. More Linux is always good. Subbed!

Microsoft's excuse for making the taskbar less flexible was that it was too much work to implement considering that only a fraction of users customised it.
Even 1% of the hundreds of millions of users is still a lot of users.
Too much work for a multi-trillion dollar company with thousands of employees.
They already had it working.

I'd have probably switched to Mac ages ago if I didn't feel so disgusted every time I look at the RAM and SSD prices, which of course MUST be bought from Apple.

Mint is an excellent distro. Very easy to use, and the developers constantly work on improving it instead of just adding useless stuff. I was most happy using it in the past compared to other beginner friendly distros like Ubuntu.

I don't know if I can quit Windows due to work stuff, but I'm really looking forward to trying Pop_OS Cosmic desktop, and would love in the future if I could get a Framework laptop where I live to install it on.
