Kevin, I share my your disdain for anything Calvinistic. My wife I were exposed to Calvinism during covid lockdowns because it was the only church that didn't care about the mask mandate, social distancing etc. BUT after a few months of attending the church, joining a bible studies, we realized the bible studies started turning into confrontational arguments because we disagreed with the pastors take on scripture without even knowing what Calvinism was. We had to leave, gracefully because every time we came home from the study we were depressed!!! However, I will be forever grateful for the experience becausenit made me dig deep into the scriptures. Praise God for the battle! We xtill pray for them that they would encounter the love of God for everyone that is WIDER, DEEPER, LONGER AND HIGHER than anything we could even imagine!!!

It is not only Calvinists that misuse the text. There's also a lot of "saying" but not citing from a lot of "teachers." There's also quoting part of the verse rather than in its entirety which can often be misleading and sometimes misleading on purpose. Concerning Judas and "us" being lumped in with him, this is a great example of the error of overstating what the text actually says. The most that can be said from the text is that it was true of Judas. There's noting in the text that says it is true about "us" or true about all mankind. And, if it's true about us (which it is not) then why were the 11 other disciples excluded from the "us" category? Greater care is needed when handling God's Scripture. Great program!

I'm having a hard time resisting the idea I should (as briefly as possible) confess my own background with all this. The long and the short of it is, the Lord used MacArthur to draw me closer to him all the way back in 1981. I was invited to a weekly bible study held at a local gym and for the first time started learning about God. I was ready because prior to this, I tried everything else of course; psychology, extraterrestrialism, Eastern philosophy, Bruce Lee, and more. I had a delivery job back then with an opportunity to listen to the radio on my deliveries. I ended up hearing MacArthur, and was sucked into what he was teaching, only to find out much, much later, that he consciously avoided admitting to his listeners that the category of theology he was teaching was actually Calvinism. Very deceptive practice. Many who knew what family he came from would have assumed he believed more like his father Jack MacArthur, who was a card carrying dispensationalist. I didn't find out for years that there was an apparent theological riff between father and son. I didn't find out for over 20 years, around 2005ish (from MacArthur's own lips) that He was consciously teaching Calvinism all the way back then, and purposely avoided telling anyone because he was scared it would turn them off. He gets a lot of questions about the way he began his ministry. People have been wondering. I also learned later, that when he graduated from Talbot seminary (in 1965) after sitting under the great Dr. Charles Fienberg, that for the next five years he actually used to wonder whether or not he was really saved. Amazing! I believe he is almost single handedly responsible for the epidemic of Calvinistic popularity in this country and beyond. Ironically, most Calvinists you talk with don't have the slightest clue that they're Calvinists themselves. Nevertheless, I ended up going to the mini Dallas Seminary at Multnomah University (in 1986-87) and sat under all the Dallas grads, and was spiritually reset by God, and redirected on a stable, consistent biblical plan, and in the process, learned so much more about God, when, at the time, I was ready to give up. There was Dr. Moore who made me study Zane Hodges book, The Gospel Under Siege." Then with the powerful assistance of the material from Zane Hodges, Dr.. Moore, and Dr. Wilkin, it still took me at least 3 years to UNLEARN all the deceptive, and syllogistically misleading concepts of Calvinism and/or Reformed theology. I was truly blessed to sit in classrooms with these great men of God.

It always cracks me up that Calvies always revert to ad hominem attacks immediately.

One needs to ask & consider the motives here. To covertly turn a church body away from: Any, all, everyone, whosoever can be saved. To: Only a random some (I won't use "Elect") will irresistibly be coerced into turning to Christ, consequently all others have been arbitrarily preordained to judgement & they can do no other... causing doubt & fatalism.

Is the Holy Spirit leading this or perhaps the intity that showed up in the Garden saying "Hath God indeed said"??

I work in an opticians so whenever I hear someone talking about the eyes and sight I’m on up periscope mode 😂
Basically we test in so many different ways and angles. One test is called Fields when we cover an eye to check the other looking for peripheral vision then cover the other to do the same. Here we are looking for weakness in the peripheral.
Along with other tests we are basically analysing to find the correct prescription lenses to balance out their vision. We can’t cure just find the strengths and weaknesses of each eye. We also look at the muscles and anatomy etc
It’s a fascinating thing!
We are aiming at 20/20 vision which is a balance despite the differences of each eye
Sometimes there are problems that need operating on like cataracts and detached retina etc all of which is a delicate procedure.
Our vision spiritually is even more beautifully complex and as you have highlighted at the start …stereoscopic 🙂

Also, the thing that Judas was being ordained for - God had already decreed thru His prophets; therefore Judas (a Jew) should have known what he was doing, having confessed that he believed Jesus was the Christ. Which is why he became a vessel fitted for destruction. Where does anyone else find their 'future' sins declared in scripture beforehand? Fatalistic determinism is ridiculous because it is pagan and false just like karma or reincarnation...

A. W. Pink or R.J. Sproul (sp). They get angry when you point out that these guys are human and this is their OPINION and not biblical.

Divine intervention would be a meaningless concept if everything was equally foreordained by decree.

God's "will" needs defining. He allows things to be. He is pleased by other things. And some things He causes to happen.

I have always found it interesting the way man makes up his egocentric sects. I was not born again until I was 46 and had two GREAT mentors. When I had questions they pointed me to the Bible. I'm a rather slow fella so I believed and stayed in the Bible. Not once did I feel ANY of the 'religious' (RCC, Lutheranism, Calvinism, Methodism, etc)came from the Bible.
Very sad how easily people go into ANY port in a storm because, again, they don't read Scripture. SMH

The ESV 'translation' of Jer 19.5 is laughably bad. The word they translated 'decree' is the hebrew word dib-bar-ti and it means to declare, command, to speak which the KJV properly renders - this verse has nothing to do with God's eternal decree.

Where did John Calvin get all of those BRILLIANT Gnostic and Manichean ideas from to put into his Institutes? I would look up the Cathar Book of the Two Principles.
