Is a Strava subscription worth the money in 2023?

For many people, the free version of Strava is really all you need. But for me, I love the features I get from the paid version. Do you think the paid version is worth the money in 2023?

Was curious about the strava subscription, this clears it all up. Didn’t realise how much I was getting out of garmin Connect for free!

I have the premium version, but I cancelled the sub, after seeing the price jump. The price jump wasn't that big of a deal to me, but it was a catalyst for me investigating whether I actually use the premium benefits. It turns out that I don't. I just like doing challenges, and getting kudos. So, I'll be on the free version, at the end of year, unless they change which tier gets what features between now and then.

Ome thing to add maybe; if you have a garmin watch / bike computer (other brands probably too) you can also track your milages, have a beacon alike option where somebody at home can follow you, auto warn people when falling, do planning, see what your training status is, how it impacts your progress etc.

Just in case people think it’s a cool feature which they don’t have, it might be just within reach on their bike computers for free.

The Free version is sufficient to track my rides and allow me to connect with fellow cycling friends and enthusiasts.

Thank you for this quick rundown of what paid versus free gets you with Strava. It’s tough, Strava is like bikes, there’s different features that mean different things to different people. I really wish the route feature worked better. I live in an area with a lot of overcrowded roads and planning my own route never seems to work like I need it. I’ll probably use the free version of Strava and pay for Ride with GPS or something similar with a better route planning experience.

Great breakdown. One thing to note is the Recover subscription also included with Strava. It was a recent acquisition by Strava and they do some great recovery workout recommendations. Some of the features you mentioned in video, I didn’t realize Strava did. Looks like I’m going to keep it for a year and take advantage of some of these

Strava should have tiered options for features people might not want to pay for. Could call the basic stuff Mech Brakes and the top tier would be Carbon. #Legit

I think Strava tools are nice, but the sketchy behavior makes me wonder if I want to reward them. If everyone just shrugs and keeps on giving them money, we've functionally just taught them that their product is more valuable than acting right. I don't care that they raise the price, that's fine but consumers functionally giving a company a near monopoly on cycling connectivity( because like you said, it's a social media platform) and then starts giving them a pass on shady shit is gonna end bad for consumers when they realize they can make money by selling data, location history, health metrics to insurance companies, etc in addition to charging us.

The free version was great for 3 years I was using it .
But ! But ! A very convenient server error totally destroyed all the progess I had made over this period.
Left me with half the rides I had achieved.
And even reset my profile picture to the one I had first used & forgotten about.
Which tells me something else with Strava they must collect data & sell onto a third party 🤔

Ahhh. So this is why they're giving out free memberships for 60 days. That seemed weird so went to find out why.
