Some classical musicians do know and think about the chord changes. those who dont will have a harder time memorizing and will be more ' on a tightrope ' when performing.

So true about fear of failure I’ve got a student who was scared of impro so learnt a complete solo but obviously that makes playing so much more demanding and you can tell straight away it’s learnt, so come the jazz club night the wheels came off straight away and then if you haven’t practiced impro there’s no way back. Sometimes people have to find out the hard way

The first solo im transcribing is cannonballs solo from autumn leaves because it's my favorite. I've already learned so much (big concept-wise) just from the first few bars!
