#5 ~Russ's Home Brewed Filament Extruder: Air Cool Jig Test. "This Is Just A Test"

just testing an idea. yes i did draw up this device. next i will be testing a water cool bath. then i will decide witch is better.

Although The basic principal of the extruder is not m idea, this build was engineered in my head as I constructing it... It's all custom to this extruder...

and there will be more on this project soon...

Info on my prienter I will be using the filament for:

That's pretty cool. Hey, make some weedeater line out of #2 plastic and see how it cuts and works.  You can use the plastic grocery bags, everyone always ends up with tons of those and all of them I've checked were #2. It would be cool to see how it works in the 3D printer too. I don't have a 3D printer, but I think I would like to get one when I can get healed up on the money.

does a gravity fed hopper give rise to the difference in thickness? for an even thickness does the feed of pellets need to be under a little pressure?
BTW stirling is right to call you the young rock star of this movement, I am very impressed by all of your efforts Russ.

Now I understand the hat thing.

If you do high speed and increase temperature, does that make the size bigger again? Seems to me high speed might help get better tolerances.

I think the variation in diameter is mostly because of how much the filament is pulling based on where it is in its little "spool falling path". EX: If it's closer to the machine, less pull so thicker, but when it's further away, it's pulling more because there is a bit more weight, so it's thinner.

what kind of auger / auger bit are you using?

what if you have a long pipe where it comes out with the right diameter that gets slowly colder the longer out it comes.  So that it is all ready stiff when it comes out the end.  Wont that give it the same diameter all the time?

The above clip is a great open source story related to 3D printing, truly amazing.
