I've been wanting to makeover this bathroom for a year now, but the bright pink tiles really stumped me! Being a renter, I was limited in the changes I could make, especially in a 46 sqft bathroom from 1929! But there were SOME things that a little time and money could fix! Despite not owning my own home, I'm determined to make the best of what I've got because I think it's so important that I can enjoy the home I’m in, no matter how long I'm here. And even with my limitations, this small bathroom makeover turned out amazing! It’s calming, peaceful, unique, and it finally fits in with the rest of the Spanish Revival, Mid Century, and Art Deco accents in the home. I think it truly feels restored to its original style and I couldn't love it more! All the DIYs I did to bring this space back to life were affordable and easy to do, requiring only some creative thinking and a little elbow grease. So I’m so glad that I discovered some approachable ways to preserve this bathroom’s natural character while highlighting its unique features!

How do you think it turned out!? Let me know in the comments below!

I'm a retired interior designer. You took the right approach by embracing what you could not change. It looks really good.

My husband and I sold our last home 15 years ago and decided to rent. We treat our home that we are renting as though it was our own. We don’t care if we are paying the bank or a landlord with our make overs; it is our home while we live here. We have paid for a landscape architect to do our backyard, we have painted our whole house and we put up a picket fence. We love our home.

A lot of effort, not too much money, but oh, what a difference. It's a great inspiration for people who can't afford major makeovers. You really do have a great talent, and yes, your home is a very special place. Hi from NZ.

We have rented for 56 years. We always taken care of our apartments. New shower heads etc. switch covers little things that make us happy 😀

Making your home whether your renting or own your home is the best. Your comfort is worth way more than having difficulty everyday with what you don’t like.

Yay, it's Sunday and here you are LK!!!! I have rented ON PURPOSE my entire life by choice. I've never had the desire to own. I have always made each and every place I've rented my own. I'm not the kind of person that moves much. I've lived decades in each home. The money I've invested in each of my homes has brought me joy and peace. I love the idea that when something goes wrong I just have to make a phone call and the repair person is here quickly at no further expense to me. I can't imagine having enough money saved for a new roof or driveway paving or gawd forbid new windows. My landlords have always treated me well because I take care of their properties so it's a fair deal. I believe you have to make your home your comfort zone.
Now LK you did a fantastic job on the bathtub. I love how the bathroom turned out. It looks terrific and to be honest I like the pink and black tile. Hugs, Jan/Toronto.

You know, I was horrified when you chose that magnolia white. But you were right! It did exactly what you planned. Not only did it warm the space, but it also made the tiles look newer. And the cabinet makeover is perfect! You have a real talent! ❤

I am so excited to see a new video from you! I discovered your channel within the last week or so, and I have been binge-watching old episodes. I love your sense of style, the way you curate found items and use mostly secondhand pieces, and your presentation is also pleasant and soothing. I can’t get enough of your content! Oh, and your home is so so beautiful. Thank you for making such inspiring and enjoyable videos!

Hi from Georgia, LK. I’m 74 and renting a home since my husband passed away. My house was built in 1964 and EVERYTHING is original. I have an agreement with my landlord that I would be a permanent tenant if he allowed me to do some upgrades. Could I ever show you befores and afters! Embracing my yellow tiled bathroom, new light fixture, recaulked, painted laminate cabinets, and painted it a soft creamy yellow. I so wish that I had found you earlier. Your ideas are awesome and I am also binge watching!!! Thank you!!!

I really loved this bathroom makeover! You did an incredible job working within the constraints of a rental, and your creativity shines through in every detail. The way you embraced the vintage vibe while still making the space feel like your own is inspiring. I especially appreciate how thoughtful you were in choosing colors and materials that not only complement the existing features but also elevate them. It's clear you put a lot of care and effort into this project, and the results are stunning. Thanks for sharing your process and insights – it’s so motivating to see how much of a difference a few renter-friendly changes can make!

As a landlady, I can say for certain that if you talk to your landlord and want to make reasonably priced improvements there's a very good chance you'll get a rent deduction. Ask first! Also, unless CA is VERY different I think the lightswitch by the shower is violating code. Which means your landlord HAS to fix it by law, you can withhold rent until he or she does it.

The cabinet, wow! Can’t believe what a difference that trim made in making it feel vintage and cool. The paint choice is great. I think a mustard or even lemon yellow faux/dried flower would look nice in the vase on the cabinet (something about salmon pink/dark green/yellow really appeals to me!). Love this!

You are a fabulous tenant! I hope your landlord appreciates you. Every little change you made, I kept saying to myself, 'That's exactly what I would do'! Brava!

Your thoughts on loving your home, no matter if its rented or owned, is SO true. It's your home where you seek comfort, joy and safety. Makeovers can be a source of pride and self accomplishment and can in turn help us with our self confidence and our worth. Thanks for sharing your ideas and encouragement.

My husband and I have moved 8 times in 11 years, and we have chosen to rent all but 1 time. We keep up our properties as if they are our own. I won't take a kitchen out or anything, but I'd paint a wall or change a shower head or light in the house. I want the home to feel like my home, not just a house we rent. Thank you for all your videos! We love them all! ❤😊

You are such a good renter! Just the fact that you cut out all that old mildewy caulk on the tub and scrubbed the floors made such a difference. I always say other people’s dirt is not the same as your dirt!☺️ I love the shower curtain and you’re right - the soap dispenser fits the color and vibe of the room. You know your landlord would probably be pleased with all your changes and maybe let you leave all the changes and might give you a discount on your rent considering all the upgrades you did. I remember Drew on Lone Fox did some upgrades to his rented apartment and the landlord loved everything he did. Great job!

The thing that wowed me was the plant on top of the medicine cabinet with the picture frame next to it. What a simple touch with such a weighted impact. Nice!
