From what I remember, the chemistry between Garfield and Stone was really good. The problem was everything else. Rather than trying to tell one good story, they were trying to set up a bunch of others. Fortunately, Garfield got another chance in No Way Home, and was by far the best actor in that movie.

I still have a soft spot for the first Amazing Spiderman. I like a more angsty and damaged Peter who is grabbling with his abandonment. Also, some of the visual effects with the webslinging hold up and look better than most of the MCU.

Always loved these spidey films because they were the ones I first saw in the cinema. Especially the fx blew me away as a kid and still do now. The performance for Andrew Garfield and the chemistry between him and Emma stone always held it all together for me

I hear you re the Spiderman and Superman weaknesses - it's when creators lean into the humanity of both these characters that you get quality. Spiderman being constrained by his need to help others to atone for his loss and Superman wanting to be a part of humanity - versatile in the right hands.

Such a bad case of studio involvement, but TASM 2 does have the best web swinging scenes out of every other Spider man movie, good chemistry between Peter and Gwen, and of course Hans Zimmer on the score

The first episode of Kermode & Mayo’s podcast I listened to was the one where they reviewed this film, so nice to have a full circle moment. I thought it was okay, I liked Electro as the villain (obviously made a bigger impact on me than Mark), but the other villains seemed unnecessary - obviously building up for a sequel that never happened.

Jamie Fox's career was very well established by 2014, why are you talking like he started in Amazing Spider-man 2! What about films like "Collateral", "Jarhead", "Django Unchained" plus plenty of average action films like "Miami Vice", "White House Down", "The Kingdom", "Law Abiding Citizen" etc. etc.?

I’ve revisited these Andrew Garfield movies more than I have the Tom holland ones. I just don’t find anything intriguing in Tom’s movies. These movies though really give us a great romance in the middle of a lackluster story, but also gives us an amazing actor in a Spider-Man suit and also gives us the best love interest in any live action Spider-Man movie in Emma stone.

I think it has the best portrayel of Spider-Man in real movies till today. The beginning, the truck chase, the ending with the kid, Andrew Garfield was the perfect Spider-Man in the perfect costume. I think his Peter Parker was a bit too confident, but I think he probably would have been great within the MCU. But the movies production and Sony still ongoing madness of the Spider-Universe took that away from him. And tbf. then and now I hardly disagree with Marks "Spider-Man can fly" point, based on the first scene of the movie. Sorry Mark, that point is nonsense no matter often you repeat it. :)

You can really see how off the rails they went with this film if you watch the deleted scenes. Peter's dad comes back from the dead. Scenes were filmed with Mary Jane but then completely cut out. It's mad!

Great cast, but completely unfocussed.

Bad movie but Garfield is my favourite Spiderman. Even with mediocre scripts, he plays the character how I imagined him as a kid watching the cartoons.

The fridging of Gwen Stacy is a trope that required careful and subtle handling, a quality this film lacks in spades. Garfield and Stone were great in this - sublime casting in a film that is otherwise stew.

Same old, same old with Spider-Man. The studio desperately want to make a Sinister 6 movie, but always try to get there too quickly.

Always felt Garfield was a bit too cocky as Peter Parker, whilst Maguire wasn't cocky enough as Spider-Man.
