Sounds like they took the Scrooged scene of a ludicrous Xmas show in which Lee Majors leads a commando raid to rescue a kidnapped Santa and tried to turn it into a full length treatment.

Rumour has it that the film cost $250 million because Dwayne Johnson was routinely late to the set and caused costs to spiral. Either way, that's an absurd amount of money to spend on this kind of project. The pandemic and the strikes clearly didn't compel studios to rein in their budgets on complete tosh.

Considering Verhoeven based a lot of elements of RoboCop on Christ, RoboCop is more a Christmas movie than Red One.
