It's a shame that such a plane wasn't a bigger success. I've crossed the Atlantic several times on board and it's quite the experience. At the moment I don't want to fly in other plane that isn't the A380, even though sometimes there's no other choice. Even if you fly in tourist class, it's definitely worth the experience, it's just simply amazing.
Once you get to the boarding gate and you see it on its berth it's just an epic sight.

A380, best flight, both economy and business, ever. But 2030 is far away, so I can get some more A380 Emirates flights.

Some people don't get it. A380 is replaced not because it is not technically good enough or not comfortable enough but because it is not efficient considering it cannot be filled enough to get profit considering it uses 4 engines instead of two. The same happens to 747-8i.

There will always be a need for a plane with the capacity of the A380. I have a feeling it will make a comeback sooner than people think.

Sadly I can only afford coach, and have only experienced the A380 twice, and both with Emirates. The first flight we were seated on the wing, and had an amazing experience. Sadly the second flight we sat right at the back, and yes I mean the very last row. The entire night flight between Johannesburg and Dubai the plane was swaying making eating and sleeping very uncomfortable. But worse was to come: Upon landing at DBX after touchdown the plane swayed so violently that I was convinced we were about to have an emergency situation! Allready identified the emergency exit 2m behind our seats. Searching on Youtube I found quite a few examples of the A380 swaying on landing, almost as though the pilot/s or systems repeatedly over correct to try and straighten it's line. If I have a choice, I'll only use A380 again if I'm assured of a seat on the wing!

Emirates will never be the same after the A380, that's what the world knows them for. The A380 made Emirates, Emirates.

Emirates is a world leading airline, which means they will pick the newest planes with the newest tech on board for deliverying world class customer satisfaction. The 777x will do the work but it is hard to compare the two unless Boeing 777X already has unique features that can outshine the superjumbo

At the end of the day it's about profitably. The operating costs of the 777-9 -8x are significantly lower and the per seat trip cost is also lower. So profits shouldn't drop and if anything increase. I feel a 777-10x model would suffer the same fate as the a380 in terms of limited operators.

All the major airlines using quad jets (4 engine aircraft, such as the A380 & 747) are changing to 2 engine aircraft, for long haul flights. Updated ETOPS regulations allows them to use 2 engine aircraft, where previously they were not permitted on trans-oceanic flights. Now they are allowed, but my own opinion is that although the engines are very efficient on new aircraft, I think it is a grave mistake to get rid of 4 engine aircraft on trans-oceanic routes, especially remote ones, such as SYD to JNB, or SYD to SCL. I've been shouted down in the past by many saying that there is plenty of redundancy built into the new generation 2 engine aircraft, and I don't disagree with those comments, but I still think that quad jets should still be used on some very special remote long-haul routes. For such routes, new generation 747's and the A380 would be highly suitable.

Just been on Emirates A380 and 777 in business class...
A380 so much more comfortable!
Have also enjoyed the A380 in Qantas economy on a very long haul.
Passengers love the A380.

I'm glad I'll be flying on the A380 with British Airways, in May. I may not have another chance, so it's neat to have that opportunity while I still can.

Maybe I misunderstand, but Emirates seems to be using Heathrow as a hub in a hub and spoke model. In 10 years they may not be. They might take the opportunity offered by smaller long range planes to fly directly to the passenger destinations without transshipment. They won’t need more slots at Heathrow or super large planes.

One assumption you made was the replacement of the number of seats provided by the A380. Emirates is operating at 76.8 percent load factor (Emirates Annual Report) with an estimated 82.1 percent industry average (IATA). Dropping some capacity (especially with more efficient 2 engine aircraft) would seem a good business decision.
