Why Emirates Has Won With The Airbus A380

No airline in the world is quite so synonymous with the A380 as Emirates. While other airlines fly a handful, Emirates flies more than 100. Even now, as Airbus prepares to end the production of the giant jumbo, Emirates still sings its praises. How has Emirates done so well with the biggest plane in the world?

I love the A380. It is like a limousine compared to other planes. It feels so safe too.

The other problem that Air France had with their A380 is that they did not have a proper class layout nor updated amenities. Singapore Airlines is much smaller than Emirates in regards to their A380 Fleet yet they're still doing fine because they made sure they had proper class layouts like Emirates did.

The A380 is a fantastic aircraft. It’s so quiet and roomy and it deals with turbulence very well.

Keeping an old car for parts whilst buying another one of the same model is an old way to save money on car repairs and parts. Why shouldn't airlines do exactly the same? Slowly disassembling the oldest ones to fix the newer ones. It's also the green solution 're-use, renovate, restore'. With Emirates' approach, I think the A380 still has a long future ahead of it.

Emirates are heroes and they save the airbus A380 life so they can live up to 50 years or more years.

I know that some airlines are retiring their a380s but I’m glad that Qantas, Emirates BA, Singapore and Lufthansa (who are keeping 8) are keeping some if not all of their existing fleet. I haven’t seen anything on Malaysian, Thai or China southern retiring theirs am I right? It’s mainly just Qatar, etihad and Air France

I fly the 380 from Dubai to Washington-Dulles. Wonderful flights. If Emirates offered their 777 on that route, there is NO WAY I would fly it.

The 380 is a wonderful aircraft. It's a f-n shame that it wasn't successful ...

It’s not just that they used them on high volume routes - they’ve used them to *create* high volume routes. For example, Manchester to Dubai - three A380s every day, and they fill them. In fact, in 2018 Dubai was the second-most popular destination from Manchester, and it wouldn’t surprise me if in 2019 it turned out to be the most popular (figures available in March). And why are so many Mancunians and other people from the north of England going to Dubai? Well, mostly they’re going on - Singapore, Mumbai, Lahore, Bangkok to name just a few. It’s now easier to get from Manchester to all of these destinations in Asia than it is to get to N American cities; and Emirates’ A380s have been a huge part of that.

I LOVE the A380, I'm saving to take a flight first class on one with my wife. Beautiful aircraft and amazing technology. I just personally think airlines didn't properly perpare for this beautiful beast. They expected it to be like the 747 but it's not, it's much bigger with new challenges.

The A 380 is an aviattion landmark plane &will be long remembered
It still has a role on dense long routes.Emirates had the brains &balls to use it profitably. With the new RR ultrafans it may well get a new lease of life. The americans were sure it wuold never be able to fly.My every trip on the A380 has been a pleasure.

The A380 is a technological wonder. Very wide and luxurious, smooth and quiet, comfortable. The RR Trent 900’s sound amazing ! The most beautiful jumbo aircraft in my opinion! It’s really a “Rolls Royce with wings”! Great video! 👍

"Doesn't see that a secondhand market exists, in which he could sell the plane whole"
It doesn't, though. If there was a secondhand market, then the A380s that were sold and leased would be utilized rather than send for scrapping. No major airline wants to buy secondhand, and no minor airline that buys secondhand can afford to buy and operate such a monster

Interesting video. Yes, spare parts are great as long as they are not worn out?

I believe (and as quoted in the video) that the main factor is the key location of Dubai's airport. It has the sweet spot of being almost in the middle between many Europe to Asia routes. This not only brings more connection options but also makes it for a more bearable flight for passengers. The plane for itself helps in term of prestige and marketing, but I believe that if they would have got twice as much 787 / A330 they would have been as much if not more profitable. However present is never written by ifs. Great video as always!!
