Why Couldn't Any Airlines Apart From Emirates Make The Airbus A380 Work?

But despite its technological achievements and remarkable capacity, most operators failed to truly embrace the Airbus A380 as the backbone of their long-haul fleets.

Indeed, several airlines ordered the Airbus A380 but the overwhelming majority did not purchase the jet to serve anything beyond a handful of extremely high-capacity routes. Amid the travel downturn prompted by the pandemic, many airlines decisively retired their superjumbos. Well, all except one airline…

I wonder why all the other airlines that use A380s and think that it's a nightmare and costs go through the roof don't sell them to Emirates since it's the only airline that can make them work.

Before I watch. British Airways, Lufthansa and ANA are all using A380 with no plan of phase out.

Emirates were just in the right position of the earth to make it work. Dubai is kinda near the centre of the world and is the centre of the Arab world.

Basically they operate A380 like low cost carriers operate 737 / A320

Doesn't matter how tiny your profit is. If you can scale it enough, it will produce massiv amounts of revenue

Subsidized fuel costs also can't hurt to operate such large planes!

When they move to DWC EK can grow by adding flights instead of needing the biggest planes available

I wonder what happened to Singapore Airlines' A380s. SQ was the first to fly the A380, and also seemed to have success with the A380.

Yes the special treatment by the Emirates 🇦🇪 Government regarding the value of the airplane fuel that they are charged on every outgoing flight from there Hub. That is not possible in the European Hub for BA, Air France and Lufthansa 😊

Would it make sense for Emirates to buy them from other airlines and repurpose them?

Probably the oil money they have which keeps Airbus a380 running running besides they don't have domestic routes like other airlines have to offer to its national.

Before I watch your video, to answer your question, here are the reasons why A380 only worked with EK

1. Geographical location
2. Target market
3. They have their own hub airport and dedicated terminal
4. Products on board are competitive
5. Locals here supports their own 😉

Emirates actually acquired 123 A380s, not 116.

Main reasons that flying can't say are:

1. Cheap fuel
2. State subsidies

Economies of scale are great and all, but don't do enough outweigh the increased fuel cost. It's obvious that qatar is getting far less subsidies from their government and hence are always talking about phasing out a380.
