Canning Mint Julep Syrup for the Kentucky Derby

Join me for this simple recipe. We’re canning mint julep syrup, the “official” drink of the Kentucky Derby.

Recipe:

8 cups water
8 cups sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
4 cups chopped fresh mint
Green food coloring (optional)
Water Bath for 10 minutes

Cheers to you for a great video! There isn’t much out on YouTube for ‘canning up’ an infused simple syrup. I was looking for a Mint Lime Simple Syrup to make Mojitos through winter with and was able to change out the lemon juice in your recipe for lime juice. I also added the color in mine (plus a couple drops of yellow to tone down the toxic green look). I did a second batch following the same proportions using basil instead of the mint for a Basil Limeade. This was fun, I thank you!

We'll be adding ours to Ginger ale. Mint ginger ale is delicious and very hard to find
