In this video, we’re going to talk about high systolic blood pressure and the different causes of high systolic blood pressure.

There is a condition for this called isolated systolic hypertension. This is the most common type of hypertension in those over 65 reported by the Mayo Clinic.

Causes of high systolic blood pressure:

• Anemia
• Hyperthyroid
• Diabetes
• **High cortisol

High cortisol causes significant sodium retention and creates significant potassium suppression. Any time you suppress potassium, you can start getting high blood pressure from that alone. High cortisol can also affect the sympathetic nervous system. It can also cause the suppression of nitric oxide. Beets, garlic, meat, and dark green vegetables are high in nitric oxide.

Here are a few things you can try:

1. Take more vitamin D (at least 20,000 IUs with 200 micrograms of vitamin K2)
2. Consume more potassium

Hi Dr Berg, just wanted to say thank you so much for all your advice! I found out I am pregnant last week, after 19 years I had given up hope. 10 months ago I started following your advice, started low carb/keto and got healthy and I 100% believe it was doing this that got my body prepared and ready for pregnancy. Thank you so much again ❤️

I went through a stressful time last month that lasted weeks, my systolic was sometimes peaked at 180! I started taking 20000iu of vitamin D and 300 of K, it’s come down considerably in two days to 135, not as low as it had been but I am not freaking out like last week. Thanks for this video so much

Yep, I'm 35 and I've been to the ER several times due to my blood pressure. The times that I've been admitted, I've had my systolic up to 213, it feels like I have a lot of adrenaline and I can't calm down, like if i want to get into a raging fight.
I've been taking D3 and K2 (10, 000IU), along with magnesium, potassium, and bromelain (together). Sometimes I take Valerian root before I go to bed, I have been taking B1 for my twitching, also sometimes I have to drink the Smooth Move to help me have a bowel movement. I drink teas throughout my day: hibiscus, ginger, tumeric, nettle leaf, and a mixture of other blends from Traditional Medicinals.
I eat one to two meals a day, consist of some protein, fats, salads. My sugar intake is 0 to minimal, in a form of organic chocolate. My sleeping has greatly improved, but once in a while I do get high blood pressure, usually after a stressful situation. I've had to get rid of Facebook and Instagram, I can't watch action movies (I really stopped watching movies), no cable TV, not really any news. I think my weight has been due to high Cortisol.
My blood work (8 months ago) showed low potassium and low vitamin D and my stupid Doctor (that needs to retire) prescribed a diuretic. Thanks to your videos, I've been educating myself and understanding how our bodies work and the root problems to our symptoms.

Thank you!

Now I have a real clear UNDERSTANDING of why my Blood pressure rise and fall..

This Doctor make so much more sense than my own Medical Doctor who is prescribing my BP Medication.
Now I understand the science behind why my BP medication should work...

He explained it so well, and i don't even know him
I'm glad I came to this channel.

This information is life altering. Thank you so much for being led to share. NONE of the MDs that I’ve encountered have ever explained or even tried, what actually goes the pressure to be elevated. They simply stick you on life long medications. This is a Blessing! I’m going to have panels run to check these levels in my body

My dad has this high number. He turns 90 on Monday so he must be doing something right. He walks everyday, is very active, still runs his company, reads every day and has the best diet and watches Dr Berg videos regularly. I think that’s his secret.

BTW, love all of your amazing videos. Just wanted to add something this time: Also, Paget's Disease can increase systolic BP. I am a 'recovering' CV pharmacologist, and always try to think of the reason someone has high BP. A friend had very high systolic BP and couldn't figure it out. She had the cortisol saliva test (she had docs that think out of the box). And it was normal. Only when she was diagnosed with Paget's, and I started learning about it, did it make sense. Paget's is a disorder where the bone recycles more quickly and strange, brittle bone growths occur. Beethoven had Paget's, and it caused his skull to grow and caused his deafness and probably his early death. My friend had it mostly in the feet. Anyway, it makes sense, because calcium would be deposited on the arteries - hardening them. The rigidity of the arteries would increase the systolic BP. There's a study showing this called "Increased frequency of impaired fasting glucose and isolated systolic hypertension in Paget's disease of bone" in Endocrine. 2019 Feb. But, I would think that D3 and K2 would also help in this instance too.
