Scotty's perfect car: Naturally aspirated 4 cylinder. Cloth interior. Manually operated windows and door locks. No sunroof. Regular key ignition. Replaceable hubcaps. Made in Japan. 😂😂😂

Scotty Kilmer good car checklist:
- 4 cylinder engine (non-turbo or supercharged)
- Runs on gas
- Parts aren’t plastic

Scotty has stopped me buying 12736 cars this year alone.

I agree with the Scottster: I hate those iPad screens in the middle of a dash. It’s as if the engineer built the car, and then said, “Oh crap, I forgot the touch screen”.

I recently test drove a brand new 2025 Toyota Camry. Man it's cheap inside. Cheap plastic everywhere. I know they're reliable, but 40K for a cheap feeling car is absolutely insane.

New cars are made poorly now. Even Toyota is having problems. Best to keep an old, reliable car.

I have a 2003 VW Jetta GLS. Came out late 2002. So car is nearly 22 years old right now. 171k miles, still going strong...

Bought a new Sonata in 2015 with the 2.4 engine. After almost 10 years and over 100K miles, it's been perfect. Still runs and looks like new. I treat it nice and maintain it well. I hear all of the horror stories but mine has been great.

As a car owner who’s had a number of Lexus and BMW vehicles I offer that: 1) All automobiles are consumables that simply degrade at different rates depending on a lot of factors. The kind that most of us can afford are declining investments. 2) No car maker is immune from engineering and manufacturing issues. Even Toyota will be drowning in recalls, given recent engine problems. The trend toward CVTs and undersized 4-cylinder powerplants can’t be a good sign either. 3) Warranty coverage is mandatory with complex performance automobiles. That and other ownership costs can be the price paid for driving enjoyment. (If you wanna dance you need to pay the band.)

I'm keeping my 2008 4RUNNER (178000 m) Just threw some Yokohama Geolanders on her. I don't need a bunch of useless crap on my vehicle. All that stuff is great until it starts breaking. I like vehicles I can work on myself, saves me thousands.

Never buy a VW without an ash tray.
When they had ash trays, they built great cars.
By the way, called a barge pole here in the U K(10 ft pole).

A friend of mine, now comfortably retired from the vehicle sales and leasing business he started in the 1960s, once told me that his business made a LOT more money leasing cars, trucks, and SUVs than on selling them thanks to the various fees attached to leasing.

I've driven in northern Illinois winters all my life and have never regretted not having AWD.

So the way things are going with the high prices and the recalls we will all end up leasing throwaway cars. I'm keeping my 30 plus year old Toyotas until they're outlawed

Scotty.
There are some downsides - even with warranty. Some manufacturer warranties don’t cover all dealer costs (like labor).
Some dealers make accessing the warranty difficult.
And lately, even with a warranty, you can be without your car for weeks or months waiting for parts.
There is no compensation if you have no car.
Warranties from car companies are not what they used to be.

Thank you for your introduction of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson. We have a 2024 Tucson. We paid for the extra warranty so we are covered for 8 years/150, 000 kms. Yea we Canadians get screwed compared to Hyundai’s American extended warranty. C’est la vie!!! I will keep you posted on how things go for us over the years. We love this car, just as we did with our previous five Hyundais (two still running great with two of my sons, especially the 2006 Azeri with over 400, 000 kms and still chugging along). I love your reviews of cars you don’t particularly like but are honest with your thoughts on ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ within them. Take care and stay strong.
