How to start a Prius when the key fob is dead

Believe it or not, it works – even with a dead battery.

This video got me into the car, but did not get my 2010 Prius started. Luckily there was another video where they actually tell you to hold the Toyota symbol on the fob to the power bottom until the power button lights up. Then the car will start by pressing the brake and power button. You got me halfway there!

Great advice. Very useful when key battery is dead. My key battery dead and had to use uber car for my travel and later I saw this video and tried as above and it works great. If I knew this before, I could save $60 I paid uber. Anyway thank you very much for such a valuable clip for my future use and others can learn from this and avoid difficulties of key battery dead situations.

Came here from a Sir Reddit video about Lawyer's 'HOLD IT' Moments
And when the video was going over one of the moments where a client had been sleeping in backseat of his car intoxicated and getting arrested by NYS trooper. The lawyer mentioned ''you realize my client drives a Toyota Prius'' I had to look up this video to realize what they were talking about xD

Would this work if I get a key made by the dealer and only have the second fob (that won't work even with a good battery in it)?

If your prius didn’t come with the key. when lower battery is the status to change the battery (CR1632) asap. The car start using at low battery mode next to the power button absolutely work just to replace fob battery asap. (I had a extra battery in the car to replace and when I park and lock it manually. The battery life doesn’t have enough power to recognize the door after trying I took out the battery and putting it back in hope may get that last of whatever just to open the door and I did) don’t wait to try to do that tho bc you’ll be locked out. replace battery at low battery mode in my opinion.

This works with a very close to dead battery, but not with a COMPLETELY dead fob battery. At that point you're SOL, so don't press your luck for too long.

The display screen gives you a low key battery warning WAY before the battery is too low to open the door….so don’t ignore it! My first fob battery lasted 8 years!
