Polycam is absolutely must have for a quick scan without advanced setup and hardware. 👌

Oh heck yes! I didn’t know they updated it to work with photos as well! Can you do another video comparing the photo vs lidar scanning and what might be better for certain uses?

cool tutorial, thanks a lot!

if I may, I'd like to make a couple of suggestions:
1. first of all the camera should be mounted in landscape mode, so that the object of interest covers as much area in the photo as possible (that is why some spikes are united on the dog)
2. the lighting should be more uniform and more diffuse, the surface in this case is very glossy, and so with each move the same dog surface looks different; more diffuse light (like in a cloudy day) will reduce to the maximum the glossiness

For your shadows, try. an LED arch light (a few designs are out there for 3d printing)

Great tutorial! How do you feel about using the auto vs manual shutter options? Also, I’d love an iPhone tripod recommendation—what are you using in this tutorial?

Hi Andrew, I red somewhere that the algorithm uses the background/ background objects to determine size and details of the scanned object. This would mean a white or plain background would create a different result. Some even recommended turning the camera around the subject to change the background and capture it from different angles instead of turning the subject on a turntable. What is your oppinion on this?do you think a noisy background would have improved the spikes in this example?

How do you get rid of the turntable from the scan. When I scan it pick up the surface its sitting on.

This is awesome. Is it possible to use this, without the model being up locally available in their library?

Don´t they have a upload browser function where you can upload pictures taken with a better camera like a R6 for example.

OK this is what I want. It’s very simple. I want to take an existing image of something I drew in 3-D print it.

would you be able to scan with a macro lens? would this increase the level of details of the object? why does the object need to be fully in frame, wouldnt detail shots add information to the scan?
