Not a pretty site removing a snout full of porcupine quills. Ouch! Interesting thing is dogs do not learn from this painful experience since they will repeat the same act over again! Pair of pliers does the trick!

What a good dog. He knows you're helping him to feel better.

Dog seems pretty calm considering the pain

My dog spent her ten years chasing and eating bees: she was stung many times, and never learned. Or maybe she just enjoyed the taste of the jalapeno sky raisins.

That dog handled it very well. I've had to pull quills from our setter's face out in the Alaska Bush where there are no vets. Most dogs learn after one painful encounter with a porcupine.

Our Vet does the same process.  NO ANESTHESIA!!!   We have been doing this same method for more than 40 years!

We take them to the vet when they are worse than this. This was a mild encounter compared to some we have.

Loggers have no use for them with the amount of timber they destroy!

sounds like they used vehicle exhaust for anesthesia

Poor guy my dogs get stuck every year. You think they’d learn

Give them a little twist comes out easier

It would have been even less painful for the dog if you would have twisted the quil then quickly pulled it out.

That dog took it like a Champ! i was crying like a little bitch when it attacked me. when i found out it was a porcupine (i was high at the moment didnt know what the fuck it was so i touched it and we were out in the woods camping/hunting) i was laughing my ass off

Well actually they do the same thing, but they put the dog under Anesthesia so it would hurt them

dog knows they are removing them but even so it still hurts. Pretty brave dog, when your out in the field going to a vet isn't really a luxury and hopefully the painful experience teaches the dog to never approach a porcupine again.

Remember Dee Spivey, the longer they are in the deeper they get.  Taking them out right away while they are not in very deep is the most humane way to do it.  Thankfully they had pliers in the field.

Infection is very unlikely if the dog can lick its wounds.  Most cases if they can lick a wound leave it be.  But a shot of penicillin afterwards is a good idea.
