Geoff Castelluci: "Of you were to bump into me on the street, and we were to have a conversation, it would not dawn on you that..." [I'm a bass]

Mr. Castellucci, sir. I'm sitting here, listening to you have a casual conversation right now. And I can tell you: there are resonances in your voice that are tickling the low range hairs in my cochlea. I can feel them vibrating in my head. And I'm not even listening through headphones, at the moment. Also: real vanilla is complex, rare, and painstaking to cultivate and ferment into its mature flavor. You, sir, are the real thing.

Peter, I absolutely love you for gently but firmly calling him out in this. And it’s not like you’re undereducated on the topic!

Great interview, Peter!

We love Geoff, but he's either too modest or slightly delusional... Or both. I guarantee plenty of people feel the rumble he referred to when he speaks and especially when he sings! Nothing vanilla about him! ✌️❤️🎸

Geoff has more of a commanding voice than he realizes. None of us hears ourselves the way others do - and it's evident he (for some strange reason) doesn't feel he fits in with others whom he considers true basses. Well, as a bass singer myself, I look to Geoff and you as two of the truest basses I've ever enjoyed listening to - and whose techniques I try to mimic. He should wear the badge of that rumbling voice of his with pride.

I mean, even his speaking voice has true bass timbre. Definitely agree with you. Not all basses are the profundo/ocktavist type.

With the range that he has, he's both a bass AND a baritone in one. And he could sing lead for just about any group he wanted to as well. Between his well-developed falsetto and his natural upper range, he can also cover most any tenor part, but I doubt he has the endurance to sing up there very long at a time. He would definitely be a great asset to one of those "bass singer quartets" they used to do as a comedy sketch at NQC!

Geoff is so self-effacing. I take his point but really, he is very special though he'll never accept that. And he has the most beautiful smile. And thank you for your comments Peter, maybe he'll listen to you, if not his fans.

I've sang in the first and second octave most of my life, the man is a BASS down. And just an excellent singer period!

His voice is smooth like butter, so yes... butter pecan bass flavor!

He is just such a nice guy! Have never thought he was anything else but a true bass.

You can just tell by listening to him speak he is a bass. Geoff is too modest

Geoff is so humble! But no matter which flavour of bass he is it's one of my favorite bass-flavours out there ❤

Geoff is a true bass... with a really broad vocal range. I hear those low notes even when speaking, and I also hear baritone and even some tenor sounds occasionally. He has an expressive voice... so you can hear all of that.

Here's where Geoff's argument falls apart:

You know what we calls everyone else who "has access to" those notes? We calls 'em "basses". :)

This was such an amazing interview! I love your explanation of why he truly is a Bass. He's such a humble man is definitely not vanilla. If I didn't know who he was and bumped into him as well you on the street I would absolutely believe that y'all were of the Bass variety. Again I thoroughly enjoyed the interview!

Yes, Geoff, you are definitely butter pecan bass, your first instinct was correct. Smooth, buttery and sweet, with some earthy/burnt low notes, and occasionally a bit of crunch (vocal fry). Perfect description. 💜

So Peter Barber is right about Geoff's voice. There are different types of bass voices and Castellucci is obviously one of those bass voice types. Afterall, Barber is an opera singer and a lot of operatic training has to do with learning the different types of voices. I'm sure Peter has listened to lots of bass voices within the world of opera and that he knows what he's talking about.
