I was obese 15 years ago, 280 pounds (My own fault, i'm not pointing the finger of blame on anyone but myself) and I managed to get down to 174 pounds in about 2 years (pretty much spot on for my height and build) I have stayed pretty much the same for the last 12 years, only putting on a max of 3 pounds, then losing it once I have found out I put it on. But last year, I tore a muscle on my left shoulder and chest, jepus it was agony for at least 2 months and got into a position to do some exercises without rolling in pain after 4 months from the injury. I wanted to see what the weight damage was and I honestly thought I only put on about 5 - 6 pounds judging by the snugness of certain clothes. Got on the scales to find I put on about 20 pounds. It was a horrible feeling. After about 5 weeks of solid exercise, iv'e lost lost on average a pound to 2 pounds a week, so about 7- 8 pounds lost so far. It's certainly slow going, i'm actually thinking of not looking at the scales for a whole month and hoping for at least a 5 pound drop. Yep, once you pass 40. It's bloody hard to lose 5 pounds, let alone 20. I Just don't want to give up, I won't survive a situation like 15 years ago.

Solid advice John. Last year, at age 52, reality hit me hard. A routine physical showed I was prediabetic, had a positive FIT test, and high triglycerides. I knew that going on a diet alone was not going to turn things around for me. Only lasting, lifestyle changes were going to do it. So, I cut out refined sugars, boosted my fiber intake, ate smaller portions, and walked (that's right - walked) for exercise. After 6 months I lost 13% of my body weight, lowered my A1C blood sugar to normal levels and cut my triglycerides in half. Oh, my first colonoscopy was an experience but came back perfectly ok. Point is... men, get your physicals done regularly. John, your channel has been an immense help to me since I have had to replace most of my wardrobe - another plus!

I’m 54 and just had my testosterone checked. My test came back at 170! Talking to the dr next week about testosterone supplements.

I am 62 @ 6'1". Two years ago, I was at 260 lbs and felt really sluggish. It took overhearing my daughter, telling my wife that she was really concerned about me. I decided to do something. Eating discipline. Replacing bad foods with healthy. 10 to 20 minutes a day on the treadmill. I took my HA1C from 9.2 to 5.84. I dropped 60 lbs. I then added a couple male supplements for boosting testosterone, blood flow, heart health, and boosting nitric oxide. My testosterone is around 600. I have more stamina.

At age 52, I've lost 90 lbs in the last year, a number I would not have believed I could have reached when I started. I began by simply going for a walk 45 minute every morning. As I started losing weight and gaining confidence, I slowly increased my walking and started managing my diet using math: calories in < calories out. Now I keep track of my calories and my macros each day. It's kind of like min-maxing a character in a RPG game. I tried Factor and Freshly but found I could make my own food that tasted better and cost less.

Solid video, John. I'm 74 and recently dropped about 15-20 pounds. That was all done by changing my diet and severely reducing refined carbohydrates (starches and sugars). In the past few years I have gone from a body weight of 310 to now about 173. Again this was done mostly by change of diet. I totally agree that if you set your mind to it it can be done. Thanks for the great job you do and I have to tell you that I don't see a major change in your appearance but don't doubt your word. Also remember, we are our own worst critics.

In March 2020 I was 370 then in April i was diagnosed with type 2

I then get fired from my job of 8 years. So I took part of my severance and bought a mountain bike. I normally train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (I'm a second degree black belt) but the pandemic squashed in person training

The first ride on my new bike, i was toast after less than two miles. But i kept at it

Then i added a hybrid bike. Then a gravel bike. Sold the hybrid, got a road bike.

In 9 months I am down 65 lbs and no longer a type 2 and my doctor takes me off the type 2 meds

In less than 18 minutes i was down 110 lbs and I've kept it off and now i do 20-30 mile rides for fun and do larger events such as the Seattle to Portland ride.

I've lost close to 10" off my belt line and i needed a new wardrobe - which is how i found this channel by searching for mature men's fashion...

I’m 54, 5’ 11” and around 180. The best thing I’ve done was to waltz into my local pawn store & picked up a $100 Schwinn 21spd 3 weeks ago and ride like the wind. My cardio has vastly improved and although I don’t believe I lost weight I definitely lost inches and dropped down a shirt size. For us older guys, walking or hitting the weights isn’t going to cut it. Picking up the cardio will! It has boosted my self image dramatically and I recommend cycling as the way to go 👍🏻

I'm 63 yrs old, and have been on TRT pellets for 10 years. You will feel vibrant again. It's awesome. Your skipping breakfast is very effective. Intermittent fasting, and occasional 3-5 day water fasts are super healthy for you as well. I'm flying through each of your videos. I believe in what you are doing.

In my late 50’s I weighed 210 plus. My waist was a tight 36”, 38” was more comfortable. My blood pressure was high, my cholesterol and triglycerides was at a dangerous level. At that point I decided something had to change. I started walking a couple of miles daily, worked my way up to 4 miles daily. Which took about an hour. I also started eating at a calorie deficit. I tracked every calorie I put in my mouth. A couple of years ago I started adding resistance training to my exercise program, and reduced my walking. I’m now in my early 60’s. I’m weighing in at 160 lbs, my waist is a comfortable 32”. It didn’t happen overnight, but then again. I didn’t get fat overnight either. This journey takes discipline, and will power. The journey never ends, this is a lifestyle, that you can live with, or die early without.

Great Video John! Looking good! 56 and down over 40 lbs. Just a little advice...calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) Then cut calories based on that. My problem when I plateaued was I had been eating too few calories and slowing my metabolism. 1000 calories may or may not be enough. Just knowledge...have a great day!

Hey John, great video. Since covid I put on some weight, and I have gotten the dad-bod. I have been telling myself that I will be going to the gym and start eating right, but I seem to fall back into the "its too much effort to drive to the gym, or getting the healthier options at the grocery store" (I'm still in lockdown in my mind) 😛 Not sure if you have already made a video (I think you have), but do you or any of the other viewers have any tips to actually get myself to the gym or eating right? Really enjoying your videos - finding a lot of nuggets to implement into my daily life.

I'm one year into my keto lifestyle and down 90 pounds. Went from desperately trying to not need XXXL to medium / small. 44 waist down to 32 (that's a foot!)
Accountability is key. You can't just say you're going to do this. You have to be accountable to yourself and find as many people to help you as possible.

You also can't lie to yourself. Your body is probably not special. If you aren't losing weight, you are eating too much and eating the wrong things and not moving enough. That's it.

At over 60, I can say women are still a delightful mystery for me. But I've learned a few things. Women really appreciate a guy who knows his way around a kitchen and can cook up a great meal. You won't earn points for microwaving a TV dinner. They also appreciate a clean toilet. So scrub out those skidmarks and dribble spots.
