Caesar said that the Brotherhood they captured out east didn't even know the name of their founder. Is this a subtle critique of Bethesda?

What makes FNV great is that every faction’s criticism of the other is absolutely true. One side isn’t lying about their opponents in some black and white dichotomy, they are making reasonable assertions based upon their own ideology.

never has someone roasted the brotherhood so hard

I wonder what Caesar would say about the Republic of Dave.

200 years and they still have the mentality of scavengers

Bethesda: *fetishizes the Brotherhood, making them out to be a super noble organisation*

The ultimate flex is showing that you know more about someone's organization than they do. Caeser knowing exactly who founded the Brotherhood of Steel where most of the East Scribes couldn't even conjure up the name is real big dick energy.

It's so nice seeing the Brotherhood portrayed accurately in here. They're not some superpower that dominates any battle they enter, fighting to restore the world to what it used to be, they're lunatics that have an obsession with hoarding relics of the old world. Everything Caesar says is true, and it's what I love about Fallout New Vegas. Every faction can genuinely critique another, and it's up to the Player to decide who's right. It's absolutely amazing how intelligent the writers treat the player.

Caesar and House is absolutely right at what the brotherhood is.They just said it with their words, and vision in mind.

And this is why the midwestern brotherhood chapter was founded. They saw the same thing in the brotherhood as Caesar did, that's why they broke off from the main chapter as soon as they got the chance. The midwestern chapter is what the real brotherhood of steel would look like if they sticked to their original ideals.

The ones that Caeser captured out East would probably be the Midwestern Brotherhood of steel who have basically gone rogue and turned into raiders

"I'd have to be convinced that present benefits outweighed future costs." That hits different

No, Ceasar, you're wrong. They're protagonists in power armor that helps sell games and merchandise, that's why Bathesda loves them.

The Brotherhood is a dead end. They had the perfect set up to actually rebuild humanity. They could have recruited the Early settlements that later became the NCR and adopted some of the Followers more positive ideals even if they would never really get along. Just imagine the NCR but with Brotherhood level tech. But no, they chose to be a isolationist cargo cult.

This is a pretty good summary of how short sighted the Brotherhood of Steel really is in terms of their overall goals. Honourable intentions without flexibility save nothing and in the end create ruins upon ruins which a loose foundation based on righteousness blinds itself to the reality of time. They inevitablty fail to see how hoarding and isolation in the pursuit of preservation betters no one and protects nothing. Its one thing if they were like the Enclave and followed a policy of "select few" but their stance on protecting the people essentially from themselves is far more damaging. Perhaps humanity will repeat its mistakes but most of the factions in fallout seem to want to be the overbearing parents to a chaotic world that doesn't sway to the desires of humanity no matter how much they try to exert control, change is constant and those fluctuations always wriggle away from the rigid grasp of dogma.

So many of his criticisms can be leveled at the Legion as well. How many legionnaires know the true history of the legion? How many know the name Edward Sallow? What true plans does the Legion have aside from “Take Vegas and Uh, it’ll all fall in place if we cosplay old Rome enough!”

Most legionnaires don’t even know that Sallow took the name Caesar from a real figure- they just think he’s a genius revolutionary mind who came up with all of these Roman trappings himself. The Legion hoards land like the BoS hoards technology, and neither really knows what to do with it.

"The worst impulses of mankind, concentrated entirely in one backward tribe"

Anyway, that's enough about the legion, now onto the Brotherhood

Interesting how Caesar’s first sentence describing the Brotherhood is pretty much how the rest of the Mojave describes the Legion

tbh the lack of subtitles makes it super immersive. Less like reading a text box while an NPC drones a word or three behind me, and more like actually listening to the dictator himself speak. Neat.
