The 87 Tribes of Caesar's Legion | Fallout Lore

Caesars legion is said to have conquered 86 tribes, 87 if you believe the armor worn by Gaius Magnus at Dry Wells is the result of a new tribe being conquered and the rest of The Legion merely have yet to learn that information, either way most of these tribes have had their history and culture destroyed, leaving only a handful that we know of and can actually talk about.

I feel like the identity of the 87th tribe is up for interpretation. Personally I prefer the idea that a new tribe was encountered by Magnus which he then conquered bumping the number up to 87, as opposed to saying The Legion is a single tribe that conquered another 86, it just feels wrong to single out The Legion when they are the entity formed from the others, not the initial starting point 🤔

It's a good thing he went west instead of East. Had he gone east the legion would have eventually been wiped out by the Republic of Dave.

Question: How does one deal with the multiple identities born after the apocalypse?
NCR: "Bribery and promises of freedom through democracy. Force when necessary "
House: "Strict and unflinching enforcement of agreements between everyone with me at the top"
Ceasar: "Military force with intermarriage between tribes until no one can remember the old identities "
F2 Enclave: "Just kill everyone who isn't us"

I think Raul mentions that New Mexico was just a raider infested hellhole that Caesar had decimated. Which is why we don't really hear of any tribes he conquered from there.

The Desert Rangers were almost wiped out too, had to join NCR to survive due to losses against the legion. Besides the NCR Ranger lore we know, would be cool to know more about the Desert Rangers before the legion arrived.

One thing that fascinates me about Fallout 2, Tactics and New Vegas is the tribal culture across post apocalyptic America. An absolutely great concept to have for a series dealing with the future. I hope to see more tribes in the Midwest and Eastern regions

From what I remember, the Twin Mothers weren't conquered or assimilated like most of the other tribes. They were straight up annihilated as if their very existence enraged Caesar.

Caesar's legion had so much lore (and possible lore). I wouldn't be surprised if the Writers, having a more extended deadline, would have wrote little bits of lore for all 86[7] tribes.

Granted, it would interfere with the idea of the Legion obliterating smaller Tribe's identities and history.

I'm more interested in the Hangdogs tribe of Denver, as that was one of the creations of Van Buren.

When you mentioned the Boomers and white glove Society would it be a fair statement to also include the omerta's since they are working with the legion

Man. Synonymous never fails to explain lore without too much deviation or side talk. Reminds me of the old Shoddycast Lore Vids. Keep it up!

You're missing the most important tribe named quest.

Thr 87th tribe is probably just a tribe thats been assimilated during the events of NV. The Legion isn't just at the mojave. The reason why Caesar is holding off on the dam is partly because he's awaiting Lanius to arrive from the "wilderness of Utah".

The main goal of the Legion is Hoover Dam and Vegas of course, but there's still advancements into other territories happening while the game unfolds. Keep in mind that the Legion controls all of Arizona and New Mexico and have substantial claims in Colorado and Utah. That's a huge area for the Legion to control that probably still has a few tribes leftover.

I wish there was more info on Arizona and New Canaan. I didn't even know that Salt Lake City still exists, New Canaan was actually Ogden, Utah until looking it up.

The Twin Mothers were supposed to be featured in the cancelled Black Isle Fallout 3 aka Van Buren. Many things from Van Buren mentioned in New Vegas are not elaborated on this being one of them.

The Twin Mothers were descended from the inhabitants of Vault 29, a Vault inhabited just by kids. Nobody over the age of 15 was admitted into the vault.

Under the guardianship of Diana, the tribe’s “goddess” the Twin Mothers developed a pacifistic and egalitarian society with one male chief and land female chief. Given the tribe’s culture alongside Ulysses’ wording of their fate, it’s safe to assume the Twin Mothers suffered the same fate as the Ridgers before them.

I'd love to see a video on Talon Company. Always thought they were a cool faction, if not a bit underdeveloped.
