Do you ever wake up with a stiff, sore neck or tight shoulders? Many of my clients struggle with this problem too!

In this video, I share the easy habit I developed to avoid waking up with neck and shoulder pain. I explain how mental chatter and tension carried over from the day can cause us to unconsciously hold stress in our neck and shoulders while we sleep.

I demonstrate the breathing exercise I do as I'm falling asleep that allows me to fully relax my neck and shoulders. By consciously releasing the tension a few times before drifting off, I've been able to prevent that stiff, creaky feeling in the morning.

I also provide a tip on checking your pillow setup to ensure your head is properly aligned, as improper neck support can contribute to soreness.

If you're tired of waking up feeling stiff and sore, give these tips a try. I hope they help you sleep more comfortably and wake up feeling refreshed. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you in the next video!

**note: if you have persistent pain, especially if it wakes you at night, we strongly recommend you have it checked by someone who can see you in person, as while muscle tension is a common cause of stiffness & soreness in the neck, there are other potential causes that should be ruled out**

I've been married for 19 years and for that entire time, even before that time actually, when my wife sleeps I can see her shoulders rising. I can literally watch her for a few minutes and her shoulders will start rising right before my eyes. She has a tremendous amount of shoulder tension. Fyi, she was a motorcycle rider for most of her younger years.

Now I'm experiencing similar symptoms. I drive for many hours every week. Over the last 3-4 yrs this shoulder tension began and has continued to increase. I'm now willing to do something about it. This is my first real attempt to address the problem.

Btw, I did discover some time ago that forcing myself to think about muscle tension at bedtime would help me relax, but I would only do it once. I fall asleep quickly and usually wouldn't realize my muscles were tightening again until to following morning. Any further recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip. I wake up with a sore neck everyday and get headaches every week, so I will try this. My biggest concern however is that I wake up feeling tired, like I haven't even slept - everyday! Any tips?
