Just an fyi, a watt is a unit of energy per unit time equal to one joule per second. So 12W does consume 12Wh per h because a Wh is one watt for one hour.

This is great news! I currently have NBN1000/50 FTTP and a Wi-Fi 6E router with a single 2.5GbE port that can be used for LAN or WAN, with a 10GbE switch as the conneected wired backbone of my home network. I'll have to make sure my next router in a few years time is a Wi-Fi 7 with at least 2 x 10GbE ports (one for WAN and one for LAN to connect to the 10GbE switch). I don't realistically need any faster than 250mbit at the moment, but when we eventually have teenagers we'll need at least what we currently have, and 2.5gbit would be great. I honestly think 100mbit should be the miminum/slowest speed offered on NBN, since two people can struggle on 100mbit.

Sorry, can't help myself. W is instantaneous power (Volts x Amps), over time it become energy (power x time) 8W for 1 hour = 8 Wh (Watt-hours)

Friend of mine in the UK has 2000 down 2000 up, and he now signed up for 8000 down and 8000 up coming soon for the same price.

Symmetrical speeds will never be realistically attainable for Aus consumers, when NBN and ISPs make it a premium sku to sell.

currently in NZ you can get 8gig symmetrical, although i think we have like 4 different Fibre network providers operating on their own ONT's some Nokia, some Huawei and a one changing over to Adtran

That's awesome to see, I just recently got FTTP and it's great - Looking forward to the future!

Really hoping to see plan prices come down as the offerings get better, instead of hopping between providers every 5 months after their introductory $10-15 p/m discount disappears.

Faster uploads are what's needed.

and providers will charge like a wounded buffalo . I cannot afford higher costs for higher speeds.

My current NTD gets baked in my garage, and it's only rated for 45 degrees too. 18 months no dramas yet.

In NZ we call it HyperFibre .. available in 2 / 4 and 8GBit

This confirms what my installer said to me earlier in the year, that NTD is good for 1gbps and my fibre is good for 2.5gbps

All well and good, sounds like they've actually been building out the backbone of the network to enable such speeds. Great if you can afford it, along with these new plans in 2025, the slower speeds most people use should see a price cut, a lot of people will just keep with what they're using but it would entice users (like me) to move to a faster plan at the same price if that becomes a reality.

So it seems like it will be worth waiting to switch from FTTC to FTTP in order to ensure getting the new smaller NTD.

if it really is as simple as $100 for the upgraded NTD I'm very excited for this. I've been a little bit worried about loosing my multi port NTD, I've always had dreams of setting up multiple connections, with multiple ISP's for link aggregation and failover. Am I LIKLEY to do that without winning a bunch of money? no, but I like the idea of having the option :P also 10Gb as an option will be sweet too, I just recently put fiber INSIDE my house for 10Gb, and while it's for accessing my NAS, if my internet could concivebly keep up with that as well, that would be AWESOME!

It is 2024, I can get 70mbps on my FTTN copper service, in my household of 6, it is woeful, it doesn't matter what NTD they deploy if they don't have the right last mile delivery to customers, which they don't for millions of customers

Agree with fibre comments, however some of us in capital cities still don’t see a horizon plan with speeds better than 30Mbps yes (FtN).
