According to Dr. Jeffery LaBelle, there are at least 25 million people in the U.S. with diabetes. By the year 2030 it is estimated that one in three people in the U.S. will have diabetes. Undergraduate students at ASU are seeking new technologies for people with diabetes. The LaBelle lab of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is working on a Tear TOUCH Glucose Sensing project to measure glucose levels in tears rather than blood. Finger pricking is currently the common way to measure glucose levels. Dr. LaBelle and his team are bringing ease and access to glucose testing that can decrease complications for those with diabetes.
