Take away point :
Implementing requirement on existing codebase is like taking food and do your regular work. Code clean up on iterative way is like doing exercise daily and keeping body healthy.

I like the word "Don't just solve the other company problems" . This is common problem many architects have. One should think of scenarios that would possible for theirs but not to some other domain companies. Sometimes same domain companies also want to scale in different direction than yours, so same solution might not be right.
