ALWAYS Dead Straight Cuts with your Jigsaw! | Most Helpful Wood Working Tools - Woodworking Tips #4

If you’ve ever used a jigsaw before, you might be familiar with the fact that it’s notoriously difficult to perfectly cut along a straight line. But there is an easy way to do dead straight cuts, that doesn’t require a lot of practice at all! Mark the start and end points of your cut, that you would normally connect using a straight line. Now take your jigsaw and place the blade right where you would cut into the wood. Now take a piece of wood that is perfectly straight and clamp it to the board you want to cut, touching the metal frame surrounding the bottom of your jigsaw. Repeat the same process on the other side Now start cutting with your jigsaw along the clamped piece of wood using it as a guiding fence. Make sure to always apply a slight pressure towards the track though, to really keep the saw on track! This trick works perfectly for circular saws too btw :)
Follow these easy steps to really step up your woodworking game!

To solve naysayers in the comments, use two straight bits of wood to create a track so the blade cannot to deviate. The guy is talking about using a jigsaw. For those that don't don't have a circular saw.

You have great information I think you're starting video with the Juke so I was a little bit ridiculous but if that is all you have to make the cut that I approve I approve I approve 100% because not everybody has all the tools needed for complete carpentry work

Don't forget to seal your guide board with two extra clamps that are only attached to the piece of wood you want to cut. this will prevent your guide board from moving even though it is clamped down. Safety first.

How do I reduce chipping on plywood using a jigsaw? It really makes a mess at the edge.

Even better: cut it little oversized and then use router with flush trim bit on that straight edge clamped to the line

what if you cannot pull out the wood, for example you are cutting a piece in a heavy bedframe

You should have your saw guide a bit longer at both ends.

to make this easier to repeat... id clamp wood either side, for an actual channel for the jigsaw to go down.

The first time I did it, I'd also measure the three marks. The right stright edge, the blade mark and the left straight edge distances... this way every time you want a cut, measure cut line, then measure out the two tracks...

A quality level will work as a straight edge of you can't find a scrap with a straight edge.

Can you show the close view of that final cut??? 😂

I bet, if you take that fallen cut piece reattach with hand and see, we can find the drifts & gaps howmuch it might had caused. No matter how finer the jigsaw blade is.

Carpentry basic:
Don't expect a straight line if your saw is not parallel to the board.

In jigsaw's case, it is perpendicular, so it will oscillate to produce curved cuts. Also the blade will be thin for the purpose to bend.

For straight lines, the bull "Circular Saw"... The Legend!
