I just wanted to add to this chat. That for oyster shells. You can get a 50lb bag at tractor supply for $12, or 13 dollars. I have 10 hens and it lasts me about 3 months. They get oyster shell everyday. Thanks

My chicken house and run were completed today. I have three young hens who are new at laying & they are 3 different breeds so all three lay different colors of eggs. One lays white, one lays brown, & one lays pastel green all are small eggs as of yet. So far all the money I have in them is the 6 lbs of laying crumbles, 6 pounds of treat food, door latches & hinges, & door handles. I was given the chickens & the material for house and chicken run & my husband built it in two days for my birthday present(tomorrow). 🥰 😛 The feed store guy told me laying crumbles have oyster shell in them.

I made the recipe that you recommend for my girls, but after doing more research and wanting to meet their needs in the winter in Michigan I have added other things to it. All my girls are free range and get a lot of what they need from that, but here is what I use, and what I have added. Whole oats, whole corn, Milo, Whole Wheat, Whole barley, field peas, Alfalfa pellets, black sunflower seeds, flax seed, fish meal, with oyster shells and grit. I have seen a HUGE change in them since I have started this diet, and the eggs are bigger and more frequent

Hi Becky~ I have been watching your channel since April, when I got my 3 chickens. Scarlett is a golden buff and she started laying @ 18 weeks. My other two have not started laying yet; Franny Feather Feet is a Green Queen and Emma is a Cream Legbar. I taught my dog, Winnie, not to bother them and my small cat, Lulu Louise just watches them. You said something today that prompted me to write. My cat’s personality has totally changed since moving the girls out to their coop. Lulu has turned into a cuddly, affectionate kitty! She has always liked Winnie, even though I got Lulu first as a rescue; I was just pretty much her food source. What a difference chickens have made to my little family! Also, I wanted to mention that the feed store lady told me not to feed the chickens cat kibble because there are vitamins & minerals in it that chickens can’t process...
Anyway, love your channel and Good luck with the move!

What causes the chicken to lay flat eggs

I thought about you and what you said about other animals scaring your chickens. I was watching another homestead channel and all of a sudden a chicken came running across the yard being chased by one of the family’s dogs. I thought to myself, oh my goodness that chicken is going to have a heart attack! Because they were both running at high speed. Jean from Arizona 🦎🦂🌻🐍🌞🌵🌴🐓🐕

Help Becky! Help! My 15 chickens have taken over the house. They started laying eggs 3 weeks ago. They became very belligerent, pecking, biting, and twisting while they bite until we bring them into the house and pet them until they lay their egg. I'm not kidding. They start screaming, pecking at the door, and flying into the windows until we let them in. Then, they jump on the couch and peck me until I start to stroke them. If I stop, they start pecking, biting, twisting, and screaming until I start stroking them again. Sometimes it takes 2 hours for them to lay their egg on the couch. They start panting, and drops of water come out of their mouth. Then they make a sound that sounds like gurgling, or purring, and then they lay their egg and go back to being normal chickens. Some of them have started laying their egg, and everything that comes with that, at past 10:00 PM. I think that laying eggs really hurts them and they want me to comfort them. They are all Astrolorp and I feed them great food. I even given them ice water when it gets really hot like you suggested. What do I do?

What’s chicken grit and how do you feed it?

I would agree that the bickering back and forth is very distracting. If you two disagree, I would keep it off camera.

Is it normal for my Austalorp hen to cluck and carry on as soon as she sees me come out the backdoor even after shes already been fed ? She gets LOUD. But shes a very sweet bird and even comes to me and asks to be pet sometimes. I dont get it. What does she want ?

Okay, I have a question. One of my chickens is laying an egg that has this gray stuff on it, what is it? Or is it just apart of the egg

Becky could you help me with the Death Layer bread. Is it necessary to keep this breed off the ground until it is laying eggs because of its immune system.? What age can the chicks go from brooder to coop?

I am here for Becky's video...not the noise in the background. No disrespect

How long does it take for chickens to lay eggs in a new coop? Different owner and different environment?

I kinda feel like your being interrupted during your lesson by your partner. I don’t mean to be disrespectful but it was distracting. I love all your videos and you are a great educator.
