I make suet cakes for my chickens, and hang them in the coop during the winter. I use the plastic trays that store-bought suet cakes come in, and then hang the homemade cakes in a regular suet feeder. The chickens love it! I typically use home-rendered lard or beef tallow, black oil sunflower seed, homegrown, home ground corn, organic peanut butter, a few raisins, and anything else that I feel like tossing in there. I'm about to make a new batch, and I think I'll add some cayenne and calendula this time.

I have 21 chickens, and they ate the whole thing in less than 2 hours. They loved it!

Hello Mrs. President! I just tried this last week, my flock (14 hen 1 rooster) loves it. Although I did scroll through comments first and I tried making doughnuts and small balls. I didn't want them all fighting over one loaf. I am wondering how many that loaf is meant to be shared with. Love them but I don't want to over do it with them.
Also I found you thanks to your prolapsed vent video. That just happened a few weeks ago and I had no idea what was going on I was in tears (I was young when I last had chickens). So thank you so much for that video, we both thought about culling her but kept trying and now she is back with the flock and doing well. Keep up the good work.

My daughter and I made something very similar to this. Basically the same recipe but we formed them into smaller doughnuts and hung them up for our ladies to peck at. They love ‘em and it keeps the busy. These DO smell good while cooking and if it wasn’t for the meal worms I would have sampled them! 😂

Today as the snow had receded I opened the coop and my three chickens were a bit timid to go out. Once the first greens pecked though, it was another story. They got sooo excited ! How fun to watch.
