I totally agree with the pacing, there's a whole section in the middle where I almost felt like skimming through whole parts of it just to get back to the parts I liked (the village, the tower, the wood, etc). I get why we had to see that part, but I wish there was less of it and more of the rest of the book. :P Overall, I really liked this one, too, and it's fun to see that you enjoyed it, even if you don't usually read a lot of fantasy! Naomi Novik has another adult series set in the Napoleonic wars, but with dragons. Not sure if that is up your alley, but the first few that I read were enjoyable.

I just finished reading this book! I agree with you about a lot of things, the pacing being one of them. I also loved the characters and the relationships and especially the writing, I thought it was written beautifully and I liked the book a lot because of that! It was a really good read! :)

This sounds amazing! And it´s refreshing to know that the two friends remain friends even though the protagonist is the one the dragon goes for. and i love it when a setting ends up feeling so real it´s like another person for both the characters and the reader :)

I'm so glad you felt this way! I had heard so much hype about the book, picked it up months ago and started reading. I put it down one day to start something else and just have never been incredibly inclined to pick it back up. I completely agree about the pacing and not delving into certain issues and plot lines, I wish they would've focused more on certain plot lines and dropped others that I didn't care about. I would like to finish this book but was so sad I wasn't as in love with it as many are. Great video!

I've heard so many good things about Uprooted. I've been having a hard time getting back in to the fantasy genre of books, so I've been trying to find a few really good one's to try and get back in to it again. I love how the Wood is characterized as well.

I have heard so many mixed reviews of this book, but consistent is the criticism of the pacing. Your admiration of the friendship is interesting to me, because so many people said that it felt forced and wasn't developed enough to warrant such praise. I'm very intrigued to read this one for myself.

I read this book during December, and I completely loved it! I couldn't get myself to enjoy the love plot, possibly because the Dragon does seem like an unrealistic character.

Omg you are spot on with the pacing. One min I'm happy and the story is move along fine and then it drops to a snails pace and I started skimming through pages. I wish the magic aspect was more developed, I found that disappointing. I gave it 3 stars I was underwhelmed by it.

I looooved this book! But YA fantasy is absolutely my jam, so this fit right in with a lot of my other favorite novels. :D I do also love a good standalone, as series' tend to wear me out because that seems to be all everyone does for fantasy now. :P I really enjoyed the main concept behind the "Wood" and the evil there. It really just brought a new and interesting world to life, for me. :)

Loved Novik's writing at first, hated it by the end; loved the book at the beginning despised the last few schizoid chapters, ended up throwing the book across the room.
