I missed one week of uploading and I've forgotten how to make videos, apparently! Please forgive the wonky lighting and that one time I say "wraply" and I don't know what I meant.

I loved Uprooted! I was listening to Naomi Novik on a podcast after I read the book and she said her mother used to tell her Polish fairytales growing up and that was her inspiration for the book.

Reviews for this book have been all over the place. I think you are right saying it is a mood read. I think when I have a mood I may have to pick it up.

I loved this book. It's gorgeous. Written well, and really captures the beauty of a fairy tale fantasy where a wizard and a girl battle evil. AWESOMENESS.

OMG thank you for actually reviewing books on here!! I recently found your channel and I am so glad that you review what you read. Also I have this on my list of books I'd like to check out. Going to Portugal soon so maybe it will be my travel read as well. The fact that it's a stand alone makes it even better. I can't start anymore series. Thanks for the great review. :)

I love your reviews! I always find i enjoy those magic that aren't explained a lot better too, which is probably why i find it hard to read a lot of fantasy because a lot of the times there's so much explanation that i just don't care about. and I also like the fact that this is a stand-alone too because series requires commitment hahaha Definitely will pick this book up next

I think you're the only booktuber that actually tried to get the names right. Thank you!

JUST WATCHED THIS. THE COVER IS GOALS. I was conflicted but i'm going to get it from the library and see whats up... then probably buy it because of the gorgeous cover. Hopefully I love it & I think I might. Amazingly helpful video 10/10 haha

That’s exactly how I felt! I did a quick read of it a few days before a book club meeting and you hit the nail on the head about the “non rules” of her magic. I tend to be a rule person. The book made me uneasy in that way. It was fast paced and dark with her war angst, but it was well written and closed well.

I'm glad to see you are back after a short hiatus. I was happy to see the title of this video because it's a question I've been asking myself. I've seen very mixed reviews of the book. The premise sounds really good to me. I like the moments of reflection, but this might be nice for a change. Usually fantasy novels have a lot of world building and I love that, but sometimes quick reads are nice.

I feel like I've done this book a great disservice - I bought it because of the cover but now I don't want to move it cuz it just looks so gosh dang purdy on the shelf! I liked the way you formulated this review and the comparisons you drew with other books. Side note: noticed Newt's Emerald in the background - have you read that one yet? I'm thinking of getting it. <3

I think I'll probably like this one! I keep seeing it around but haven't picked it up yet. It sounds like a mood read to me as well. I feel like you've made my mind up on whether to try it :D

After watching this, I am kind of glad that I didn't buy Uprooted the other day. I think I might get it from the library instead. I love the way this video is set up!

Great video, I DNF this book the first time around but didn't really give it a chance. I'm definitely going to try reading it once again

Okay, I straight up laughed out loud when you said "wraply." I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you mean "wrap up." But I could be wrong. Either way, it was hilarious.

This book definitely sounds fascinating. I might pick it up sometime soon. After I get through Ava Lavender. And the 11 other books I bought in September... >.>

I really need for this to arrive at work already so that I can read it because I just...I NEED TO READ IT, MARI.

Also, I just spotted Newt's Emerald on your TBR and now I'm kind of terrified because I loved the shit out of that book when I read it a couple of years ago. (Still unclear whether Nix has actually changed the story any since it came out in e-book form in 2013...)

What a refreshing look at fantasy! This book hasn't piqued my interest really at all and not just because of the negative reviews. Fantasy lovers really can get picky about the elements and pacing - so it's nice to hear the observations of someone who isn't from Fantasy Country. I also loved the way you compared it to a burger & fries read. I'm going to have to steal that one. It's a bit different than cotton candy or rich dessert. I'm always making food comparisons to books ---
And 87. lol

I prefer character and plot over magic systems. While magic systems can be really cool and interesting, I'm also in the mindset of "um... It's magic. You can do things cause magic." Which, Neil Gaiman talked about that once in a blog and he seems to have the same mindset which makes me happy.

Your list surprised me. If I were to make one, it would consist of just: "if you need to see many sexist tropes in fantasy subverted and if you need to finally read a fantasy story with a female character who asserts herself, then *read this*".

I've seen a bunch of mixed reviews for this one, but it was never something I wanted to read. (Maybe to only look at because wow that cover is b e a utiful.) It's one of those books that I will know from afar tbh
