There used to be a mythology of “happy slavery”. That has largely evaporated. Yet many people don’t want anyone to see or admit to just how ugly the institution was and what violence was used to perpetuate it. _Beloved_ sounds like a wonderful book.

Wow! I didn't know that a true story that propelled Morrison to write Beloved. 😮 I agree with the statement that it seems like these excuses feel very much like trying to silence people's voices. Even on the aspect of how "violent" the book is (though I do not really know because I haven't read it), this book feels like for 11th or 12th graders especially those in AP courses. And students at that age should be old enough to analyze the book while not being too affected by the graphicness of the book. That's just my opinion.

I'm hoping to read by the same author, Morrison, for August's picks Ellen Made's Bookclub! (Sula)

I've only read Song of Solomon (which is good) and keep meaning to read Beloved. Probably should get on that!

Dear Reney, this video comes in such a coincidence with my recent North Carolina trip where I visited one of the biggest plantation houses in Stagville, Durham county. It was such an emotional visit, also learning about a female slave that was able to escape, Mary Walker, which story was told in a documentary. And Beloved has been in my TBR list for such a long time... it must be such a painful read. Great detailed video 🙏🏻 Even Raina was completely focused on the topic! 💕

Great job, Reney! This is one of my top ten novels of all time. It’s such an important book. You’ve done a great job with the novel and the reasons (contrived) for its being banned. Well done, my friend.

I've never read a Toni Morrison book. I guess because I never see any of her books at the thrift stores that I buy from?. Maybe one day I will come across one of her books.

Thank you for a great review! You are doing well with your banned book project. I definitely need to try Toni Morrison! I've decided that most folks who want to ban books just don't like to read!

I'm gradually working my way through your older videos. You mentioned that you like adventure books as well as legal and medical thrillers. By adventure, do you mean Lee Child or Vince Flynn or some other type?
