You will also learn the 4 elements of proper venting and how to choose the best range hood to suit your cooking needs.

Make-Up Air is the law in Massachusetts and should be an important consideration anywhere. You will learn what it is and how to install it easily.

I always open the kitchen window when using the range hood (when the oven is on). I also open the bathroom window when using the clothes dryer. You really don’t want dirty air being sucked in from your wall receptacles or ceiling lights. Most people don’t realize when you exhaust air out of the house in massive amounts like that, the air has to get replaced from somewhere, so it gets pulled from every void possible, mostly wall outlets and ceiling lights. Wall receptacle and ceiling air infiltration is the dirtiest, passing through all that fiberglass insulation and then putting particles into your house. Even central vacuums suck air out that needs to be replaced. It really is best to have a make-up air device installed or to open a window.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video -- I learned something from it.

I always enjoy your videos very informative! One thing I noticed is you call it a stove instead of a range. My friend at A1 appliance Steve Scherer told me years ago in the 80s you put wood in a stove. Has stayed with me ever since. Keep up the good work!!

good video. most people with new homes get the cheapest range exhaust that does little or nothing to expel fumes to the outdoors.

This is amazing timing. Building a new house now and trying to figure out how much of a vent we need with the Induction slide-in we're planning on getting. I love the looks of the wall mount hoods. Do I really need anything more than 300 or so CFM hood?

Great video, very informative. Is it necessary to have elbows in exhaust? Can one go straight up through roof? I have a flat roof and exhaust vent would be directly up, less than three feet.

You have much better so I don't have a vent system as far as a tube and outside air flow is concerned. I only have the over-the-range microwave. And the top of my cabinets are they just get saturated with grease I've got a constantly clean them. So what is a solution vent hood product that can be used in that type of situation. I've been thinking about why this has been a problem where it hasn't been a problem before and this video and the one on what not to buy perfectly explains it so thank you for that

Txs so much for this video. Not many people know about the makeup air. Lately I too hv seen new builds using gas ranges with a microwave hoods. The kitchen is open to the other rooms and hv high ceilings with picture windows. Will it help to open the patio door across from kitchen to get fresh air back in? What r ur thoughts? How do we know if the newer builds hv makeup air installed with the hvac sys. Txs.

I live in a high rise condo where we have interior kitchens and we are not allowed to vent outside since the walls and ceiling are concrete. So we can only recirculate air. Fortunately we’re not allowed to have gas ranges either, so I have an induction cooktop. I have an air purifier but that’s not for grease and oil of course.

I’m planning a remodel with the cooktop in the middle of the open floor plan kitchen/living room, and am trying to decide whether to go with a hanging ductless hood or a ductless hood attached to the ceiling. Any thoughts on either? Should I also add some tabletop hoods/air purifiers?

Is it possible to turn on my furnace fan in place of installing a make-up air kit? I'm planning to install a 600CFM fan in a fairly recently-built home, and I'm a little uncertain as to whether I need make-up air or not...

Yale! Help me out on your thoughts!
I live in Michigan. Make up air is now required for any hood with 400cfm. My HVAC guy said it would be about 8k to put in a make up air. I live in a quad level single family house with the furnace in the lowest level. Thoughts on even getting a 400cfm. Will it be enough? Will a 350 vent to outside be enough?
We don’t have enough room on our breaker or money for a convection & the electric stove is horrid (I’m a chef). Thoughts?

What if you have an interior kitchen with no outside walls (stairwell behind, bathroom above, basement below) and no way to vent outside?

More of government tell us how to live is never a good idea. Name ten people you know who died while cooking in the last 75 years? I'll wait. Government seldom does anything good.

Please learn what a jump cut is and stop doing it. They are unsettling and used to be considered unprofessional. I realize that social media and editing on one's phone has changed perceived standards but you are still a professional company. Either do a re-take on a line or use zoom cuts or cross dissolves.
