Bro what. Firemen risk their lives and have an honorable job protecting families and businesses. They deserve a whole lot more than 40k

Why is they so underpaid. We have sports players making millions playing football and shit and people running into burning buildings for 40k????

In washington firefighters start at 87 and have a 5 year step plan that tops out at about 110-120

Definitely a starter salary. Typically with EMT and AEMT cert you make closer or over $50k. It all depends on your department's budget. The more populated the city/county you work for, the higher the salary. I wanna know what his hat said though he was quick to take it off 😂

In Texas firefighters are paid around 50-60 a year starting. Provided they work at a department that also runs EMS.

This isn’t in California which is why people are surprised. It depends on which area you live in but LA pays a starting firefighter between 90k to 100k a year(which is the lowest rank pay). The higher the rank, the more you get paid is how it works.

And remember.. that’s based on an average of 56 hours a week. Not just 40.

Firefighter pay ranges drastically around the country. From 0 (volunteer) to over $250k

Ok so for everyone saying they’re paid too little, here’s just an explanation: A little over 3/4 of firefighters in the US are full volunteers or part volunteers. Volunteers drive their personal vehicles to the firehouse or directly to the scene. Part volunteers do the same but they spend time at the firehouse on call as well. Keep in mind both types of volunteers are on call 24/7. Considering this, pay is low for the average firefighter. Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and larger fire departments will make a lot more than 40k as mentioned in the video. Keep in mind this guy has also been on the job only 5 years, which out of a 15-20 year career, isn’t much. It also depends on the department. Like I said earlier how larger departments will pay their personnel more, that’s because they get a shit ton of calls. If this guy serves a rural and more relaxed jurisdiction, he’s probably running a dozen or so medical calls a week, which is nothing compared to the average fire department.

I think in my area the local Fire Dept makes around 55k to 63k a year. Since it’s a more rural area in the south.

I know this is about pay but nothing pisses me off more than a fat firefighter. You have a responsibility to your community to be in shape. You have a responsibility to your family to be in shape so you can come home to them and not get killed because you couldn’t get out of a building. You have a responsibility to your brothers and sisters to not suck your bottle down because you didn’t do your cardio when you need to get out of a building. I commend every first responder. Our job isn’t easy. But you owe it your brothers/sisters, your family at home, and yourself to be in shape.

As a volunteer firefighter we get paid 10 dollars per call….one of those calls can last upwards to 8-10 hours straight.
