According to NBA Insider Fred Katz, the Knicks continue to explore options for a backup center. Recent reports indicate that NY is looking to make a move at the center position regardless of the health of starting center Mitchell Robinson. The Knicks have attempted to make a move all offseason long to get another big on this team but according to Katz, trading for one may not be their only option to find an upgrade near the trade deadline… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

I agree that the Knicks need a center in the worst way because that's the only position that is potentially weak due to Mitchell Robinson's injury but also his inability to: hit free throws much and score in any other way beside dunking every now and then.

If I were the Knicks, I would find a way to go after Wendell Carter. He can shoot 3's, defend, pass a bit and finish at the rim on ally oops & pick n' rolls. I know they have maybe 2 first round draft picks left...but it would be worth it. Last season in the playoffs Mitch was gone which removed the team's rim protection & shot blocking against most centers & drives to the rim. We can't wait for that to happen again this year.

Why can't Thibs COACH UP Simms like he has done with other Big Men? Afterall, there must have been some talent the knicks saw in Simms to bring him on the Team. Tell Ainge to take a walk. As a former Celtic he will not want to help the Knicks out at all, and he will try to ROB them for Kessler. So why not COACH UP SIMMS? He is young and can develop.

Keep in mind, how Precious is playing will also play a role in which type of player the Knicks go after. I believe Precious is more than serviceable, and potentially better for the Knicks than Richards.

Yes Leon Rose did drop the ball 🏀 Tristan Thompson Dwight Howard that player Fernandez Boogie Cousins Nick Richards Bismack Beyombo and host of other Centers begging for playing time over in Europe. How could You not see the situation with Mitch wasn't Coming? Thibs tried to play Sims on multiple occasions and the results were disastrous and Now he is Priority? Give me a Break. Lots of Centers were sitting there in the Draft end of 2nd round you could shipped to the G League but Nope! Now we have huge hole at Center with a Coach who worships at the Temple of Traditional Rim Protection Big Man. Even Stevie Wonder could see this problem coming.

I’m going to say this to you for the final time……

I think that you are totally underestimating Jericho Sims.

The Knicks, as presently constructed, don’t need a lot of scoring power from the center position. They need defense and rebounding on both ends of the court. If Sims is completely healthy, he’s got the legs to give them those things. In addition, they need their center to be good at executing the pick and roll. A competent midrange jump shot wouldn’t hurt either. These are all things that Sims has been working on. I think that he’s going to make you eat your words. I saw flashes from him last season but he was not receiving consistent court time. The Knicks are going to make a sincere effort to find out if Sims can be an answer before they make any move.

I think all of this center talk is a bigger damnation on Simms. I thought last season that they were seeing some development showing in him. Now he isn't even in the discussion of holding things down until Mitch returns.
