Physical Therapist Margaret Martin demonstrates how to safely lift weights at home.

Few days go by in our lives that do not involve some element of lifting, whether it is a grocery bag or your child, grandchild or pet. How we lift can make all the difference in the long term and sometimes short term health of our bodies.

Using bicep curls as an example, we integrate all of the foundational elements we have acquired in earlier episodes to safely and efficiently execute a lift:

1./ Postural alignment.
2./ Breathing.
3./ Integration of our pelvic floor and deep abdominals.
4./ Pelvic positioning
5./ Shoulder (scapulae) positioning.

I have osteoporosis and appreciated knowing the proper way to lift things, but the only problem is that I have a left knee that is bone on bone and is hard to put weight on that knee to bend down so my spine can stay in a neutral position.
