Slipknot's Corey Taylor Really Doesn't Like The Chester Bennington AI

Recently, a couple of videos came to light where the creators used AI to recreate Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington's voice and have him cover Slipknot's 'Snuff' and Stone Sour's 'Bother'. While most of the internet sees this as a good thing, Slipknot's very own Corey Taylor doesn't like it one little bit.

All money from Chester's (or indeed anyone's) voice should go to him/his heirs obviously. Other than that, I don't get the big deal. People are doing it because they love Chester and his voice. I don't see how that is stepping on his grave. It is out of appreciation, not malice. It's also not always about him being dead. Hearing an artist cover another artist's song is something people have wanted forever, whether someone is alive or not, and now they have an, admittedly flawed, way of doing so.

People, including Corey here, contradict themselves so hard on AI. How can it simultaneously be soulless and devoid of creativity, yet replace soul and creativity? If it is so soulless, surely you can defeat it.

I agree. Chester is gone. Nothings gonna bring him back. But what he did left us with was an his incredible voice and his energy when it came to music. If an AI can nail his voice to the point where someone listening would say "I didn't know chester did a cover of that song. What concert was it?" then that AI will spark a revolution in the industry. I think that's why so many people are into it.

I think it’s plain disrespectful, it was Chesters pure emotion that he poured into his audience and him actually being physically there to relate to his fans is what made the whole thing magical. That can never be replicated by AI, let Chesters book close. Thats what he wanted afterall.

A.I. presents a real danger to artists because I see businesses like ad agencies & music labels using it to cut costs and time. After all, why pay someone when you can just type prompts in a computer program and get something for nearly free?

As human beings, we've got to get a handle on this technology and get laws in places as to what is allowed and not allowed. We cannot afford to stick our heads in the sand. All we need to do is look around us and see what uncontrolled tech has done to video stores, book stores, arcades, and etc... How much harder is A.I. going to hit music, art, and film? Artists of all ilk just won't be able to compete. Without a doubt, something profoundly human is in danger of being supplanted.

yeahi ended up getting creeped out by the chester a.i.'s... one was immortal by evanescence...it sounded nothing like chester...too high of notes.. and the lack of emotion and soul is just too obvious...lets let music be music...no more fake stuff... i learned to like those remix's but thats the actual song mashed with other songs...

Corey Taylor may be a very talented and intelligent individual but i can't agree with this. For starters, it's quite the assumption that this merely a cash grab. It could simply have been an ode to two cherished artists by a loyal fan.
