I can’t wait to see the rest of this series! The Paddington series has been giving me a lot of comfort recently. Cozy, comfort reads are my favorite.

Thank you Kate, 100 Life Softening Books is just what I needed to start the New Year. Life can have alot oif worries attached to it and books
particularly comfort reads really do take the edge off things. As someone once said, books will be there for you when you need them and I have always found that to be true.

Hi Kate! I’m new here and seeing this video in my feed today made me nearly cry. I had just gotten home from a dr appointment and it was a heavy one. I’m needing some softness in my life right about now so thank you! The cool thing about your channel is I’m really interested in reading more middle grade, even a bit younger and a bit older, as well…but I don’t know where to start beyond the Little House books, Beatrix Potter, Anne of Green Gables etc. I already have almost every book you recommended here in this video on my wishlist and most of them I’m never heard of. This is exciting!

Wonderful list! Can I add a recommendation in the same vein as Adam of the Road and A Door in the Wall? Brother Dusty-Feet by Rosemary Sutcliff is another middle ages road trip story. It's just delightful and the ending scene is the coziest ever!

Many years ago, after the lunch recess, our elementary school teacher would have us lay our heads down on our arms, on our desks, and read us the chapter of a book. Adam of the Road was one of those books. It must have been about third grade. I bought this book a few months/years ago, and have been meaning to re-read it. I have no memory of the story, just an impression of the setting.
Thank you for the reminder of Marguerite de Angeli's books. She was one of the very few outside our subculture to feature the Amish/Mennonite children as significant characters. I remember seeing a few of her books in the church library. Not sure about the school library, which usually consisted of a shelf or two in the back of the school room, as well as occasional visits from the traveling bookmobile.
