This tutorial is ment to show my personal way to export 2D DWG files from sketchup, maintaining all the geometry separated into layers using colors.

Bonus tip: how to use external references (Xref) to apply changes into Sketchup and automatically change the 2D file in AutoCAD

Incredibly cool. This really makes SketchUp ultra functional, especially for changing materials when exporting to 3ds Max.

Here I am, 9 years later and sketchup hasn't implemented a layer export yet. What do they do at Trimble besides playing hacky sack all day?
Thanks for the tutorial. Very useful!

Great insight. I was doing this by sifting the profile color filter and reassign color in ACAD. But now I will see if I can export to the ACAD CTB file color directly, saving me tons of time.

@JCEQUALCHI Thank you again, I found the answer. I used SCALE command on CAD to scale my isometric drawing into correct dimensions :) This tutorial saved my day, I exported my isometric drawing on SU to CAD smoothly! Pls continue making these tutorial videos :)

IS there a way to retain the layer names when exporting to CAD? i believe
the only way is to export as a 3d model then flatten it i n CAD but this takes too long and makes the file freeze for a long time and is not durable when you have a big file

Ok, quick question, (first of all, great tutorial, thanks!) I was wondering if, suppose I made a cube. Now, for the layer transfer in AutoCAD, do I have to put a layer on the component or inside the componer (on all the lines and surface indivually)? Is my question clear?

thanks for the answer! bye!!!
