Sketchup is a great program to use for 3d printing because it's free and intuitive. In this video we walk-through how to export STL files for 3d printing.

STEPS:
1. Open the extension warehouse
2. Download "Sketchup STL" by the "Sketchup Team"
3. Select the geometry within your model that you'd like to send to STL for 3d printing
4. Go to File
5. Select "Export STL"
6. In the pop-up menu select the checkbox which says "Export only current selection"
7. Select units (I use millimeters for my Dremel 3d printer)
8. Select format (I use ASCII for my Dremel 3d printer)
9. Click the export button

Now you have a universal STL file which you can import to your 3d printer's software!

What kind of objects are you exporting with sketchup STL? Let us know in the comments below!

A S C two....
It stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII), ie: text.
Binary is the one you want unless you're reading the file yourself, it is SO much smaller.

i downloaded an skp file from 3dwarehouse but when i export it to stl it loses all of the detail. is this something that is inherent when going from skp to stl or am i doing something wrong?

Как в скетчапе сохранить гладкую поверхность в stl? Я сделал шарик, допустим, для печати на 3D принтере, и он распечатал как бы секциями, линиями, то есть не гладкий шарик, а что-то типа сегментированную из 24 штук поверхность...

I started researching 3d Printing about 3 days ago, and I still don’t know why my sketchup looks very different from how your sketchup layout looks. I don’t even see the WINDOWS option...

"ASC2" C'mon man! Ascii (ass-kee) code is what your computer uses to display letter characters so you can read it. ASCII is an abbreviation for American Standard Code for Information Interchange.

This is now obsolete so why don't you remove the video so people don't get their hopes up and go searching down a rabbit hole in vain. SU doesn't support this for older versions. You can't do any of these things unless you buy the paid version of SU.
