Intro to VECTOR FIELDS // Sketching by hand & with computers

Vector Fields are extremely important in math, physics, engineering, and many other fields. Gravitational fields, electric fields, magnetic fields, velocity fields, these are all examples of vector fields. In this video we will define the concept of a vector field, talk about some basic terminology, practice drawing vector fields by hand and then turn to the technology to plot vector fields on the computer.

Dr. Trefor, you explain the content very very well. I am currently in Calc 3 with good grades and understanding. Without your videos, it would have been VERY VERY difficult for me to understand what I learn in lectures. You explain not just the what but the WHY, and that has helped me so much!! I’ve got to say your videos are great if I were to make one suggestion it would be to slow down your speech a little bit you seem very excited which is awesome but for a laid-back dude like me it was a bit overwhelming how overtly excited you are. That said I’m looking to get into vector calculus and linear algebra and I’m wondering where a good starting point is because after watching your videos I realize there’s a lot of fundamental theoretical knowledge that’s required and so where would a good base be because like you I’m very ambitious but sometimes I have to measure my ambition with a modicum of patience.
