How do you import an .STP (STEP) file into Fusion 360? This Quick Tips video will break it down. The easiest way to import an .STP (STEP) file into a Fusion 360 document is to use the Upload command in the Data panel. Select "Upload", then navigate to the .STP (STEP) file you want to use and select "Open". After selecting "Upload", the file will convert from STP (STEP) to a Fusion 360 file.

Once the file has finished uploading, it can now be inserted into the assembly. In this video, Kyle simply clicks and drags the part into the assembly.

But how can I edit the imported body?
I wanted to cut something out of it, and it just did not work.
Why does it have to be so complicated? Why do I even need to upload a file first to import it? Why can't I just drag and drop it from my PC directly into the project?

Does this only work with the paid version? I don't have the upload button available.

I need to combine Fusion 360 with a CFD software in order to optimize the original CAD design.

Can Fusion 360 handle geometry variation in a batch mode? For instance, if I design a basic geometry and want to optimize it according to certain CFD-imposed criteria, would Fusion 360 be able to keep generating-updating the geometry (produce new STL's) until I reach my optimization goal?

Yeah but the upload takes forever. I've been waiting for 30 minutes already, the progress bar is still empty.

So it creates a reference to external file, right? How to include such (already converted to f3d) file/component, so it will be fully contained within current project? Edit: probably found it -> "Break link"

why cant you drop a step file directly into the partfile? So anoying that you have to make it its own file, then link that file to the partfile. No wonder fusion runs so slow

Where do i find the file once converted? I can.not see the same as your screen. I do not know how to find that panel on the left side of your screen.
It is not in assets.

For everyone that click upload and it appears that nothing has happened:

Click ctrl+alt+p to access side menu
Click the little picture of the house "🏡"
Scroll down to admin project and double click
Your file will be there.

Available for free and paid version
