Reminds me of the Skinner Box. The scientist Skinner put pigeons in boxes and had treat dispensers give out food at random. He found that pigeons would do stuff like dancing and head ticks in an effort to make the treat come. They thought their actions had an effect on the treat machine

Similarly, in trying to solve an engineering problem, we tend to add "parts, " when subtracting might make for a simpler solution.

It's such a mindfuck cuz it equally could have been that waiting would absolutely not save them. If the algorithm was randomized they could have been waiting longer than they could survive for their cube to reach the exit. They could have waited, check each adjoining safe room to see if it connected to the exit in the time between movements to increase their odds. But yeah, there's no apparent right answer from the start so it really is a gut punch that it just so happens they could have stayed put. Which seems like a huge convenience to me.

Eco was brilliant. One read through "Foucault's Pendulum" would convince any person of sense that he's the genius that so many misdiagnosed Dan Brown for.

On top of this, he gave us the incredibly instructive (and more relevant by the day) essay "Ur-Fascism", something he wrote from his experiences under Mussolini's rule.

He was also goddam right when he said we force our own meaning onto things with no meaning. Far too many people confuse the map with the territory.

This movie terrified me as a kid. The fear of going to bed that night and waking up a death maze was too much to handle. I wish movies scared

You definitely see the need for action on the tv show "naked and afraid" and the few people (always women) who go on and just conserve energy and chill end up having it much easier... A lot of men go in all gung-ho looking to hunt and build a mansion from twigs and leaves and then end up quitting by day 3 from burn out 😂

This exploration of The Cube has been fantastic and fun! Such a good classic movie.

She makes anything worth watching, her expressions and explanations are second to none, she remains to a narrator in Spanish for cable channel back in EL SALVADOR 🇸🇻 that I watched religiously because that guy make sh1t interesting regardless of how boring or far fetched it seemed but besides that she’s the perfect combo for me, beautiful lady!!!

Eco was a militant atheist. Not that this takes anything off his insight, but it puts it into perspective. He certainly was invested in a material world, devoid of meaning.

did u know that a long time ago there once was a young hot wing he was a very nice hot wing except he wanted to he tomato's not just normal tamato's but tomato's from a clowns nose. he had to have the clowns nose's for every meal but they had to be used.
this hot wing ended up as a model in the 1780's. he turned out nice and red with hot sauce. one day at a modeling show a guy decided to go up on stage and take a big juicy bite out of the hot wing. the hot wing cried and cried for a million years because he could no longer be a model. after he cried forever he was very moldy so he started to cry again. after that the little moldy parts came of of him and became SERGEANTS they stictiched up the hotwings whole. by now the young hot wing is a very old BUT HE STILL COMPLETED HIS MODELING CAREER. after the SERGEANT'S fixed up the hot wing they got a hotdog and ate it.
