This is a in-depth tutorial on how to use Blockbench for the Customizable Player Models mod! This discusses animation, model set up, textures, in-game uploading, and more!

Thank you for your support on the previous video! I hope a lot of the questions from last time were answered. When I made the first video, I only expected my friends and clients to see it. However, it got a lot more traction than I expected, so thank you! If you still have questions, feel free to leave a comment, or mention me on Twitter if you want a more in depth discussion.

Thanks for checking out the video! Timestamps for important steps in the process are in the description!

I hope this tutorial can be a bit more helpful / insightful than the last one. I wanted to try explaining why everything needs to work the way it does, just so you have context for why we're doing every step. As a teacher (outside of YT), it's important to me that everyone understands why and how certain steps are being done.

If you have any more questions, leave a comment!

EDIT: There is an easier way to apply the second layer textures than what I showed. You can click CPM > Add Part > Second Layer, then select all your second layer parts. Then, right-click the texture, and select Apply to Elements. You will still have to resize the arm if you are using a slim model, but it is much easier than what I discussed. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!!

-get blockbench to make a silly minecraft skin with and give myself a wizard hat
-no prior experience with 3d software at all
-get distracted
-end up spending 2 hours making a low poly Garfield
sounds about right

Just a quick heads up, when you add the 2nd layer, select the layer objects and drag the texture to the box in the top left and adjust them so they're in the right place

Expanding the texture is alot easier than the way your doing it :D

right click the texture, go up and click into crop/scale, and make sure your on crop/expand, then just change the size to whatever you desire!!!
i usually do 128/128 (double what you start with)

this is a great tutorial tho! i had to brave cpm by myself so im glad seeing people making tutorials!

found a way to use second layer without duplicating and switchung the uv and stuff, it's simple, you'll need to go to cpn and press 2nd layer BEFORE changing the texture of the skin to your skin.

Its incredibly rare to find comprehensive, easily understood tutorials on youtube, at least in my experience, and this one is incredibly helpful. Good job on the video, and thanks for sharing some knowledge with the world!

My partner is making a comic using custom Minecraft models as the sprites, and this tutorial is so helpful at showing how to make custom models!!
I was looking for a video to show how to give minecraft skins joints, but the stuff shown in this video is very clear imo, so we can just apply that :)
Thank you for the tutorial!!!

So glad they added a feature to make a custom repo. If you're running out of space or you just feel bad using someone else's git, that's the perfect place.

There's also unused space within the vanilla player data which is convenient if you just wanna look like an among us like me

I stumbled upon this randomly and I’m not disappointed, I’ve been messing with models and animation stuff for bit now, because I have a project I’ve been wanting to do and trying to work on, half of that being how to code for mods because of everything I want to do with it.

Anyways I’ve made a few blockbench models which I’m quite happy with but I always found it restricting in the angles I can work with, some of those models I want to do some texture animations and whatnot but I don’t think I’ll get much animation done in blockbench especially when I want to get whole scenes in, learning blender and how to code is a pain, but I know it’ll be worth it in the long run for what I want to do.

Though I do think i have found a mod that I’m going to use continuously now along side the others I always use, i definitely found this interesting and seems like it’d be easy to follow along in some way so kudos 👍🏻
