The government of Kenya wanted to electrify the SGR in 2018 but preliminary research showed there was inadequate demand for electric trains in Kenya at the time! Now, the world bank says that the SGR is ripe for electrification in order to reduce emissions and increase speed of transportation! So expect the SGR to be electrified in the near future and the passenger trains will be traveling at 180 kph!

Thanks for this video, the train looks smart, hope to travel with it soon. Let promote our continent without comparison, each country of our continent is special, rich or poor, with little or much, the important thing is to be moving ahead to improve our continent status. Please enjoy your stay in Kenya.

I was in Mombasa back in 1982. It was one of the most beautiful beaches I ever visited. I was only 11 yrs. old. Wow, the time has passed, and looks even better with this great train station. Thanks for the video and best of luck!! Cheers.

Kenya is really developing faster. Ug, we need to copy from our neighbour . Corruption and embezzlement of funds and resources should be stopped

Very impressive, far superior to the steam trains that were on this route in the early 1960’s. For a really exciting ride I did this journey by bus on one occasion.

Development can be a curse especially in Africa, one day Kenyans will see and understand why South Africans are misunderstood and are called names, simply because we say, all is welcome in our country, but we want you to respect our country and our laws, and this is not xenophobia. We are misunderstood. Keep growing Kenya, you are closer to us as a Bantu, we understand and love you.🇿🇦🇰🇪, you will see scammers, cyber criminals, etc, development often invite these types of criminals, we have plenty in South Africans, giving our country a bad name, many are from .... country, you which one. West Africa.

Beautiful new infrastructure. The key here is a maintenance program that protects this excellent asset. If everything from the ballast rock, rails, rolling stock, signaling and structures are not maintained, in twenty years this will all be ready for the scrap heap. When someone suggests "deferred maintenance" that's when the trouble begins, because with that phase comes the inevitable corruption that allows the deterioration of the system to take off.

How lovely of the Chinese to fund this marvellous venture ..its so kind of them to think of others less fortunate .The station looks far nicer than Euston and the lack of parking regulations and drop off fees will ensure many Kenyan smiles .
