Great advice. Something I like to do is, if you got a song stuck in your head, just sit down and try to figure it out. Even if you don't nail it, it's a better exercise than looking it up and reading it off sheet or watching a tutorial.

I’m ultra self critical in general but have learned to let go of that when I started learning piano so I don’t give up learning. I have to remember that the videos I watch are usually people who have played for many years. Has helped a lot.

Not everyone has a mind's eye. I certainly don't. Someone else has already commented that the condition is called aphantasia. I don't think I can audiate very effectively either. I think the two things are connected quite closely. Doesn't stop me playing music, but I think it does change my approach.

It's the difference between playing by sheer determination vs. letting it go. There are some, unfortunately, that can not tell the difference. It's difficult to teach too.
